Just heard that UAL staffs at about 5 crews per aircraft. That would still mean 1,000 pilot furloughs.

That is about the same number of airframes they would gain if they bought JetBlue. Park all the 737's, buy JetBlue with the help of Lufthansa, have an all Airbus narrowbody fleet with a new terminal in JFK. Lufthansa wants strong feed in JFK and they don't want to lose UAL in the Star Alliance. My bet is still on a UAL/JBLU combo of some sort funded by Lufthansa.

Delta has not completely quit fighting Jetblue or SWA, but decided to rebrand and do a lot more international. I think competing head to head against SWA the next 3-4 years is just a ticket to burn cash.

They probably did not get any info on this until it was official. They cannot for SEC regulations. I am sure that they are scrambling to get motions passed for Dues checkoff items for the future furloughs.

Ugggh- this is really bad news. Trying now to get ahold of some UAL buddies to see if they're getting any info...

Very interesting post. I know nothing of these companies but that does sound plausable. United did want a universal fleet, at one point anyway.

For the UAL guys...

Exactly what scope protections do have here?

Any one-for-one mainline/regional language?

Any regional fleet size caps?

Any J-for-J?

How do the UAL people understand this?

It's not magic. That's an ignorant statement that has no place in this thread.

Sorry to the UAL guys. Your airline is my airlines' bread and butter. I hope for success for the future, for both of our airlines and careers.
