I am sure that is coming. Just as it will for AMR. We will see if CAL and DAL follow suit.
I guess the prediction of 20% fare increases or 20% capacity cuts coming to the market was a good one. Too bad real estate sucks. What are we going to do for the next five to seven years?

CAL already announced the "parking" of all their 737-500's & 300's. The difference is CAL is replacing them with 737-800's & 900's. Total of about 110 airframes to be parked in the next two years. No loss of jobs.

Regarding Joe K...one of my biggest regrets in my aviation career was not recording his first code-a-phone message as chief pilot. He got the date and the day wrong! While he was at DAL we were all looking forward to the party when he got his 1,000 hr. pin...

"About 80 aircraft are expected to be out of the system by the end of 2008, with the other 20 coming out by the end of 2009."
This is a direct quote from UAL management.
To the member who asked if there will be furloughs...a definite yes. In November 2001, United parked their entire B727 and B737-200 fleets totaling about 97 aircraft (75 B727's and 22 B737-200's). This reduction along with the elimination of the B767-200 (about 20?) and about 12-14 B747-400's resulted in the loss of 2,172 pilots at United. Those were just the ones who were furloughed. Not to mention the folks who went on military leave, voluntary leave or who retired early.
Throw in the new retirement age of 65 and HOLY $#!T!!! Based on this information, I would think that we will see about 1400-1800 furloughs from the pilot ranks.
God help us all.
