Captains will make less than FO's at most major airlines even after there huge paycuts! I am sure they will still find pilots to fill those seats, and I am sure they will be the same JB Kool-Aid drinking types as well. This will not help the industry pay for pilots, the only hope is we stop foreign ownership in this business.

The word is A-320 Capt tops at 80K per year. (unofficial)
Okay, it is time for a reality check here and not rumors. If you do some digging and find their application for certification (it's out there, just do some digging) you will find that they estimate that their cockpit costs per hour will be $275/ hour. On average approximately 35% of that cost is in benefits historically. That leaves just under $180/ hour. That works out to somewhere around 112 for a captain and 68 for a F/0 (assuming around 60% for a f/o). Anyone know of a startup with better pay that that for a narrow body? Let me know will you? IT'S A STARTUP. First year pay! Look at the legacy's and see what their first year captain's pay is. I will agree, if it is $80/hour, that is sad. But their certification application says otherwise.

Does anybody have a feel for how Virgin Atlantic's pay compares with British Airways and BMI's?

That might be an indicator.

Default Start Up Pay

At National Airlines the starting wage for a 757-200 Captain was 55K. The FO's started at 35 and topped at like 44K. They started up in 1996 and had people lined up around the block. On the first day of ground school the president of the company would give a speech about how we would never earn more than 80K and still they came by the boat loads.

Talked to an ex virgin FO in Narita ( the cage, but I swear I dind't do the kareoke thing ). he was now flying for ANA. he said after 6 years at virgin he more than double his pay switching to ANA. ANA pays FO's 90K year, so his pay at virging flying the 747-4 should be around 40-45k.

Virging pay is low compared to BA ,at least that's what their crews like to ***** about at the barge.

We'll just have to wait and see

Default China flying anyone?

Note after 50 years not being able to break $100K

Private carrier may employ foreign pilots

UNITED Eagle Airlines, one of the three private airlines in China, is expected to recruit four foreign pilots with an annual salary of 800,000 yuan (US$99,379) each. This will be the first foreign pilots working for Chinese private carriers, Huaxi City News reported today.

Yesterday morning, the executive president of the airline interviewed four captains from US airlines, whose average age is 50 years. Each of them has logged over 13,000 hours of flying time.

The four foreign pilots have to pass health checks and qualification tests before joining the airline.

"A domestic captain's annual salary is between 550,000 yuan to 600,000 yuan, but for foreign captains, 800,000 yuan is acceptable," said officials from the airlines.

The airline has to spend a lot of money and time on pilot training, and to employ a pilot from other airlines costs a lot more, so recruiting foreign pilots will save a lot of time to ease the recent urgent needs.

United Eagle Airlines, a Chengdu-based discount carrier, began flights last year, with another two private airlines -- Okay Airways and Air Spring -- after the Civil Aviation Administration of China approved them. The decision signals the government is taking an initial step towards breaking the state-owned airlines' monopoly on passenger air transport.

to all those with wage insecurities!

last time i checked the "Majors" were all in Bankruptcy protection! this is a new world in aviation, the market can't support those wages anymore, airfares are at an all time low. Someone said "The word is A-320 Capt tops at 80K per year. (unofficial)" come on people this is not chiken feed either. you can't expect them to give the big wages right off the bat, It's a startup.

you don't like it and want your 300k a yr then go overseas that's the only place you'll find that anymore.

personnally i'm ready to face up to the new reality of today, lower wages maybe! but at least i have a job that will put food on the table.

It must be real easy to be critical sitting in you nice cockpit earning your high salary, try wearing my shoes! what would you have me say " sorry dear, my pride won't allow me to work for 80k a yr, i'm going to stay at Home Depot untill wages come up!
