Again, to beat the old dog. Anyone speculate that United may sell some of it's prized possessions to buy time ?? Maybe put in other terms, how many more unprofitable routes are still being flown. I would have thought that pruning job would have been on-going since the BK ?

That's kinda my point all along, I'm just crummy at getting my point across.

The word is that United is in a serious hole and may be in BK by summer. It is believed that Doug Parker of Airways is sitting back waiting for United to go into BK so he can aquire them dirt cheap. He would get more airplanes, routes, etc., all at liquidation prices. At that point, it would be a buyout, not a merger, so he would retain his super cheap labor costs he has at Airways currently. As far as jobs, it looks like it would be good for Airways, and a disaster for the United folks.
Parker isn't sitting around waiting for anything. Parker, along with every other airline CEO, is scrambling to figure out how to keep his head above water with oil at $130/barrel.

I know it's fun to speculate about the demise of an airline, but if anyone is going to post on the subject, at least act like you know what you're talking about and back it up with some half-way believable numbers.

Are the merger talks with UAL/LCC off or are they still on going?

I haven't the foggiest idea. And let me let you in on a little secret: No one who posts on this message board does either, nor do they know what is actually taking place at the executive level at any airline.

I understand, and I wasn't asking you to speculate. I was thinking perhaps the employees had recieved an update or something of that nature.

From Aviation Week:

United Airlines' share price is down more than 75% since the start of the year. UBS Investment Research analyst Kevin Crissey forecast this morning that United's parent company will lose a staggering $15.22 a share this year, up nearly 50% from his last estimate.

I'd lean more toward greedy than incompetent.

You know, of course, they are not mutually exclusive.

If I was looking to acquire a piece...I'd only want the profitable routes...

What were the fuel predictions from DAL, NWA and US Air at their BK exits? Who was predicting 135bbl oil in financial reorganizations?
