Ledzep,
You seem to forget that our current gas powered cars use lead-acid batteries. You don't need to be a scientist or engineer to figure out that those are harmful.
Lithium-ion batteries seem to be popular for electric cars. Those are the same type of batteries used in laptops, cell phones, and other devices. We will dispose of (RECYCLE) used batteries the same way we do for these other devices.

I hate reading about all this oil crap but I just cant help from keeping on reading.
I am sure most of you are in the same boat but at this point I am seriously fearing for my job. I'm pretty sure I am going to be furloughed soon since it seems there is no end in sight to how high the price of oil is going to go.
I really have nothing technical or factual to add as far as oil prices go....................just wanted to vent a little and let you guys know how worried I am. Thanks for reading

Unless everyone on this board is writing their Congressmen, Senators, and even the President demanding we start drilling in ANWR and off the coast of Florida, we are not doing our part to stabilize the price of oil.
It is all about supply and demand, and unless we get supply above demand we are all going to continue to be hosed!!!

You won't be driving anything that runs on gas unless this oil snafu sorts itself out in the next few years. Don't count on that. Liberal democrats are not your answers regardless of your views on unions.

Ummm, what's the problem? (Being said VERY SARCASTICALLY BTW). The oil companies have the RIGHT to make a small "10%" profit, regardless of who is hurt in the process. Many argue it's a capitalist system and this is GOOD, so why argue with them? Oh well, when a few more airlines go bust and they lose their jobs, they'll see just how good a system this really is........
Companies going bankrupt is part of the capitalists machine. The weak die, the strong survive.
Perhaps this is just the thing our industry needs (provided oil doesn't keep rising indefinitly) in order to get ticket prices back to where they need to be and end the invasion of the LCCs.

Just curious, were you this upset when the oil companies were in the red because the price of oil was way too low for them to make profits?

........... Lets not just write to our congressmen/women lets vote in some people with enough brains to vote in favor of drilling and continue developing alternative fuels. ................ Liberal democrats are not your answers regardless of your views on unions.

I just saw on the Fox Business Channel that the US Airforce will run entirely on synthetic Jet Fuel by 2016. The report also stated that by 2011 they will have 20% on synthetic fuels.
The interesting part to all of this is the Airforce has a chemical blue print that the fuel has to meet. Meaning, the airforce doesn't care if this comes from coal, or woodchips.
Maybe some light in the years to come.

I wonder how soon until that technology is embraced on the commercial side.

Personally I think its a fair question EWR..... did you even blink an eye when the oil companies and oil service companies laid off several HUNDRED thousand workers in the 80's........
AND for the record NO, I dont like 3.80 a gallon for gasoline...BUT..lets say we forced exxon on only make 20 billion instead of 40 billion this year.... do you really believe the price of petro products would drop a significant amount? Its not about what exxon or shell or your corner gas station charges for a gallon for gasoline ( a non renewable petro product sometimes transported half way around the globe ) ( and still less than 1oz of hard booze and some ice in most bars ) at the pump....its the market price on the commodities exchange that ultimately drives these prices. Not sure why you anger ONLY seems aimed at them.... there are a multitude of reasons we are where we are. On another line of thought, I just wonder if you took the priced of a barrel of oil say in 1984..... and added 3% per year... to its cost... what that number would be..... that would be interesting.
