AIRLINES: Alaska Airlines may ground 26 MD-80 planes
02/18/2006
Alaska Airlines may dispose of 26 MD-80 planes, or almost a quarter of its fleet, to reduce costs as it takes delivery of new aircraft that cost less to fly.
Getting rid of the planes would cut fuel, crew and maintenance costs, the airline's parent, Alaska Air Group Inc., said Friday in its annual filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The company's board will discuss getting rid of the planes, the second-oldest type in the carrier's fleet, this quarter, the filing said.

That's good news. I just applied online today.
What's the Junior base? LAX or SEA? I would assume LAX, but when I looked at the profile, it says junior capt. in SEA? (1997!!!)
I am assuming ANC is pretty senior.

"now they will have less flights so you will have less choice, not to mention more people on the airplane"
I was under the impression they are replacing the MD80's with new aircraft. Not downsizing.
