DAL has been telling new hires for a while that 50 seaters are going away because there is no $$ in them with high fuel prices. This is just the beginning. They told us that when these contracts were up for renewal that they would not be renewed for 50 seaters. Maybe worse then watching airline execs lie and steal from their employees and companies is watching big oil execs try to legitimize to Congress their $10bil plus in quarterly profits in order to keep their goverment tax breaks and subsidies.

that's the best part isn't it? i know i'm soooo happy every time i fill up my car's gas tank to be paying such high prices, helping the oil companies with such high profits, when i already gave them all my federal tax money last year. i look at how much subsidy the oil companies get, and realize all the tax money i'll ever pay will never even come close to what they're getting, so it's all just thrown away.
that's what you get when the oil companies form the nation's energy policy in a secret meeting right after the new administration takes office (2001). might make people think twice about who they're voting for next time i hope.

in my opinion, it is cheaper to terminate these contracts then allow the 50 seaters to continue flying... even if they have to pay in court for it. However, I can't imagine there isn't some clause in the original mesa contract with regards to performance or reliability... neither of which Mesa is known for.

Sad part is, you take away the oil companies tax subsidies and all... and guess who gets to pay to make up the difference. That's right.. the consumer. It's a lose-lose situation, unless you work in upper management or hold lots of shares of stock at an oil company.

I sure am enjoying seeing JO put in a corner. I feel bad for the pilots, but they should have seen it coming. You really can't rely on Mesa for anything... solid employment, the truth, contract compliance, safe schedules, appropriate pay, performance, staffing, compliance with the law, gratitude for employees.... the list goes on. Mesa is a bad place to work. I enjoy seeing people leave there for better employers and I cringe every time a new hire walks into that black hole.

Anyone know how much longer Mesa had on their contract with DAL?
Rumor is UAL is looking to give Mesa the boot in a few years when their contract goes up. I wouldn't be surprised if other carriers follow the same road as DAL if the courts hold up in their favor.
