Default Aloha Airlines to shut down pax ops tomorrow

Aloha Airlines will be shutting down its interisland and transpacific passenger flights beginning tomorrow, ending its 61-year service in Hawaii.

In a news release today, the company said United Airlines and other airlines will help accommodate passengers who have flights scheduled on Aloha after tomorrow. Aloha has stopped selling tickets for future flights.

This is an incredibly dark day for Hawaii, David Banmiller, Aloha's president and chief executive officer, said in the release. Despite the groundswell of support from the community and our elected officials, we simply ran out of time to find a qualified buyer or secure continued financing for our passenger business. We had no choice but to take this action.

Even worse to see a scumbag like Johnny O get away with killing an honest airline.

Special place in Hell for his kind.

The very thought of MAG makes me want to throw up. Aloha is a great airline, great employees, great history. Too bad they couldn't make it work.

Hopefully we will see the Mesa meltdown on the mainland continue, and they'll lose a mainline contract or two.

Most of all though, I hope this won't hurt the Hawaiian economy/people too much. Hoping Hawaiian will pick up the slack well, they are a great airline as well.

Isn't there some HR person to blame for hiring JO at CAL way back when?

A lot of us forget about Island Air, which used to be Aloha's subsidiary until a couple years ago. Anyone think they may reintroduce the Q400 for interisland operations?

My thoughts and prayers go out to the employees and their families. Aloha was once on top of my list of places to work. If someone has some inside info regarding wheter it is a temporary shut down or a total fire sale, please share with us.
