Aloha Airlines to shut down pax ops tomorrow
#21
Come on all you free market proponents. Isn't this a good thing? It's healthy competition right? So what for the people at Aloha? They will get jobs elsewhere. The Govt. certainly shouldn't interfere. There is WAY too much regulation already...bla bla bla.
Come on guy, you know who you are. Your silence is deafening. Maybe we'll hear from you when they come for your airline.
Pathetic.

So Mesa wins. For the Hawaiian and Island Air pilots who remain, the tensions with go! pilots on the ramp will become palpable and volatile. This is not just "free market enterprise", this is real people's lives being shattered. This is our friends and famililies at Aloha being thrown out on the street with their children. This is our friends going from winning a great contract one day, to having nothing the next. This is a war, and the Enemy has won the first decisive battle. As the face of the Enemy, you will now be openly derided by many. Rightfully. You, the Enemy, have injured us, our friends and our families, and will not be forgiven. But remember, before it starts getting crazy here, that it is the Enemy, your company and organization that we hate; not you, personally. We don't even know you, personally. So, please forgive myself and my brethren our transgresses as the emotions begin to flare in the coming days. Remember, it's not about YOU, it's about the Enemy; Mesa and JO. All YOU have done is REPRESENT it. But as long as you REPRESENT the force that tore our lives apart here, you will receive this animosity. Rightfully.
Just don't take it personally. Aloha.

Unfortunately, JO has yet to barred from working in the airline biz. Lorenzo was a very intelligent man, but a scumbag none the less. Are people at the very least able to say the same about JO? Im not sure.

someone can't be barred from business no matter how predatorial they are. you'd have to break federal or state laws. sure he's a nemesis, but in business it is not a crime to drive a competitor out of business. just ask wal mart. sorry for their loss.

If any of you Aloha guys are interested in flying freight ATI is hiring. You can apply online if interested. Good luck!

So what laws did Lorenzo break? Yet he was barred from ever being involved with a airline again by Congress.

I have a good friend who just went down the tubes with Aloha and this is the second shut down he and his family have had to endure. My sympathy to all the Aloha employees and their families! For the life of me I don't get your point here (pure and simple flame-baiting?) except you are arguing for reregulation I suppose. I would argue that the villain is not a "true" free market but Ornstein and his cronies.
Perhaps you have some socialist suggestions to fix the airline industry? Government intervention to expedite mergers? A bailout by the government? Oh! that already happened and has only kept weak players alive and drained the life out of those that were viable. Thus delaying the inevitable consequences some may now be facing. I thank the Lord every day for my job (but only the one represented by the Cross in your avatar) because I know nothing in life is quaranteed, including life time employment. Who might you thank for your job, the government? Now that is pathetic!
Please enlighten us all with your worldly advice.
Your friend,
Oscar

On the business front, now Mesa will be going after Hawaiians inter-island flying. If he can knock them down they will own the Hawaii flying.
Mesa is an absolute bottom feeder and everyone knows it. However, things are going a little too far when they are able to get away with knocking off a good operation.
It would be interesting to see the books. If Go is self supporting or the whole network was helping subsidize the Hawaii operation.
As for Aloha just flying freight. That may be the way to go to keep the business for the future.

What if it were go! who ceased operations? Somehow I think you would be leading the cheering section on that one. What if it were Virgin America who announced they would be ceasing their operations, would you want the government to step in and save them? I think you would have a change of heart and suddenly be embracing the free market system. How about Exxon Mobil?
