Breaking News - Skybus may go union
#51
There are some significant operational differences between all of the previous mentioned airlines, and a 121 Scheduled passenger operation.
When it comes to 121 scheduled passenger operations - we need one united union / association. It should be pretty damn clear how association that is, and it's not the Teamsters.
The Teamsters are a great union, but they are by means great representation for 121 scheduled passenger operations - at least in my opinion.

So what is total compensation value at Fedex? You indicated IBT contracts did not have loss of licence coverage. I have coverage. You indicated the work rules were not up to par. I'll concede they are not the same, but most of us like the rules we have.

That said, I don't see ABX folks screaming for ALPA to be on board. They have a pretty good deal as it is. Saying it's "not even close" and then saying "I don't have the figures" brings up a lot of questions about your accuracy and intentions in posting here.
You take the easy road out of the hard question....

I've seen the figures, but I don't keep them on my computer. I've got all of the regional stuff saved, but the cargo stuff wasn't really relevant for my position as an MEC member at a regional. But you're right, not a lot of ABX guys are looking for ALPA. The IBT does a pretty good job by all account for them, but they started their own local like the NetJets guys did instead of using Local 747. Still doesn't offer the resources that ALPA has, however.

Riddle me this.. what union was it that voted out the gains made in 2000/2001 by Delta and United? What union was it that crammed a massive concessionary contract down the throat of those two airlines and totally reshaped the land scape so that a Skybus can come in and throw out starting wages this low, and remain competitive? Hint... it wasn't IBT, nor, APA, or IPA... and it wasn't SWAPA.. so who does that leave?
The individual MECs agreed under duress to the changes. ALPA National has nothing to do with individual MEC decisions. All they can do is provide assitance, advice and resouces.
If the individual MECs choose to go their own way, that's up to them. And if the rank and file don't like the MEC's decisions they can recall them.
But you can't tar ALPA with the brush of corrupt managers using the bankruptcy laws to gut their pay and work rules.
At least they didn't VOLUNTARILY go to work for an outfit paying 50% less than average. Now, don't you have a Costco run to make?
