UPS pilots were not happy with teamsters and switched to IPA instead – I think that was a smart move…

Yeah, the UPS decertified the IBT under duress..
You're right AV8OR,
The UPS pilots were brilliant when they decertified the IBT and went independent (of course, they had enough money and pilots to do it). But it wasn't without a great deal of difficulty and duress.
UPS Captain, IPA Organizer, and then IPA President Captain Bob Miller received death threats when trying to organize the IPA. It is a really interesting history that you can read about on their website. Of course, they are still a smart bunch as they work hand-in-hand with their fellow IBT represented drivers, rampers, etc. when it comes to contract or strike time. On the last day of the UPS strike in 08/97, the UPS ramp in SDF looked like Dunquerque, with A/C from Barons to Metros to Lears to Falcons to DC8's sitting on the ramp with nobody to load or fly them. It was an impressive display of trade unionism at work.
In my opinion, one call from Bob Miller can shut the place down. Now that is a tight union. The IPA really has done a great job!

No Consequence
The 3.25% was not at ALPO. but it doesn't matter.
In-house unions have worked at smaller companies with as few as 300-400 pilots and the dues were not out of line. It does take solidarity and leadership no matter what.
Just my 3.25 cents or was that 1.95 cents ?
