There are lots of reasons why an airline pilot shouldn't vote for many politicians. What did McCain do to alienate you?

I will probably agree with you, BTW. JP

It really should come down to what is best for the country when voting, not what is best for me. Sorry to turn this into political, but just because McCain is anti-union shouldn't cause you not to vote for him. I don't agree with some of his positions, but for the country, I believe there is no contest between the socialists Obama/Hillary and McCain. Just to vote for Obama/Hillary b/c they are pro-union is kind of selfish. Just remember what Bill said, "shared prosperity". Shared prosperity is socialsim.

There's no solid answer on this but I lean heavily towards no. We talked about this sometime back. I went and pulled a table that showed the amount of flight operations per year by 121 carriers. The amount of operations increased at a pretty linear rate. There wasn't any explosive change. My opinion is deregulation did one thing and that's allow LCCs to lower the standard across the board. No more actual hot meals or real utensils. Now we're having to pay AA to get a blanket or pillow.

If everyone votes "What's best for me" then the outcome will be what's best for the country. I vote for what I want and so should everyone else. At the end the majority wins which should determine overall what's best for our nation.

True indeed.....in a socialist society. I like a lot of things about McCain, but he despises unions, like me lately, and is probably the most pro-cabotage politician in the country. I just can't run the risk of having to compete with Air France or Ryan Air on EWR/IAH turns. Just can't do it.

BTW. My statements are political, as is just about everything, but not partisan. I think deregulation's implementation was horrible. And mostly Ted Kennedy's baby with much assistance from Maxine Waters.

I agree with that, however, it seems most people get tunnel-vision. McCain is anti-union so I'll never vote for him. So they vote for whoever is pro-union without looking at the other baggage that goes along with them, ie: pro-choice, tax increase, health care, etc.

Be careful. Capitalism ,unchecked, is just as bad as socialism my friend. Reference the Bush administration.
To my way of thinking, the real problem has been that we haven't had unchecked capitalism. Pilots have not been (and are not now) free to withdraw our services collectively if we don't like what has been dished up for us. At best we have the antiquated RLA deal with, and many have been told "take it or leave it" under the barrel of 11-13 in a bankruptcy. The playing field is currently so far from level it is laughable.

at what point do we hold the republican party responsible for a balanced budget. i thought they were the ones who were fiscally responsible. if spending increases (war) shouldn't taxes increase to cover the cost. either cut spending or increase taxes. if you cant pay your bills in your family and you get another credit card in the mail what do you do? be responsible or go further into debt.

I wonder how the cal pilots (with families) feel about affordable health care...
