Default Uniforms.

Hey Pilots...

I Have A Couple Of Tattoos On My Upper Arms. None Of Them Are Gang Related Or Obscene In Image Or Grammer, And Has Nothing To Do With Race, Sex Or Gender. The Lowest One Comes Down About An Inch And A Half Above My Elbow. My Question, Do Airlines Regulate The Type Of Sleeve You Wear? Also, Does Anybody See My Tattoos Posing A Risk To An Airline Career?

Tattoos?

No worries brother. I've got 2 myself, none are visible in uniform and are also none of anyone else's bizzness.

Good common sense would dictate long sleeve shirts during any formal interview or company interaction so as not to raise eyebrows. Even my uniform short-sleeve shirt goes down to my elbow for coverage

If concerned, you can always put on a large band-aid designed for knees to cover the one that goes low. FYI -- plenty of guys here at FedEx have tats. Many are visible. One guy even wears long-sleeves during the summer (hot as hades) to cover his "full sleeve" tattoo on each arm. You woiuld never know he had them unless he rolled up his sleeves.

Any "weak sisters" out there that have a problem with it, just ignore them. Not worth your time anyway.

Bottom line -- be discreet and don't sweat it. Best of luck.
Later,
NKA

I can't find anything in either the FOM or the grooming policies about tats. I agree with NKA and just keep em covered for interview and probably your first year while in the AOC, training, etc.. I think the best bet is to look professional.

FedEx FOM 2.55 COMPANY UNIFORM/ GENERAL APPEARANCE

Personal appearance and grooming are closely linked with professional pride and attitude. As professional pilots, crewmembers must present a meticulously groomed public appearance. Hair should be neatly trimmed with no exaggerated styles, long sideburns, etc. All pilots must be clean shaven, however, moustaches are acceptable, but must be kept neat and trimmed to the corners of the mouth. Uniforms should ge clean, pressed, fit appropriately, and be in good repair. Shoes/boots should be shined regularly.

Man, that is the longest book title ever! Really, stop with the caps.

But I am SURE you don't want your tats showing at work. Ever.

There are at least two Samoan pilots at my company. Both have full body tattoos per their tradition.

At U I knew a guy who had one similar in length to the one on your arm. He always wore long sleeve uniform shirts.

Now, should I tell you about the cabin crew who had tats done on a trip in Singapore? Very nice dragon on one's behind, the other just had one of those lower back ones done. I like it when they come show us these things in the flight deck
