Balloon Chaser. My interview is on the 12th. Should be....fun..... I get the impression you have yours coming up a bit faster. Good luck.

I sat back and have found some stories to tell. I have just outlined them so that they flow well. It really does help. Time to start practicing my responses out loud. Im sure youre doing the same thing.

Hey guys - good luck on your interviews. Mine is on 2/28.

Question about recommendations. I only had 2 recs on file with airline apps - neither were from DAL pilots. I could get a few more before my interview - one from a friend who is now a DAL pilot, and one from a check airman where I work now. Does it matter now? I mean, are the recs simply to get you the interview, or would you bring more recs to the interview with you? Thanks.

It couldn't hurt. Some people say that they don't read them once your at the interview. But I know in my case they read all my LOR's just before I started the panel portion of the interview. And I think BB reads them as well. So I would say if your contacts are going to give you some good ones that show your character, work ethic, and customer service especially than definitely do it.

Does anybody know their policy on sick calls? I know they look at them hard. I had an off year with 3 last year. I have documentation and explanations. I am concerned as to how they view this.

They are very concerned about sick days. They are going to ask about how many trips you called in sick for, how many rotations you canx for sick, ect. They are also looking at WHEN you called in sick. Major holidays, sporting events and such are really goig to raise their attention. If you were sick and called in, no big deal. They are going to ask about it and just stay calm and give your reasoning about why and when you called in sick. Remember, these guys have all called in sick. They are not expecting you to fly passengers when you are ill. They are looking for guys who game the system. That is all.

Get a hold of the book, "Checklist for Success" and read the section on interviews and LOR's. The book is an easy read and has all kind of great tips and interview techniques. The new knowledge test is random questions with some getting more math than others. The book Mental Math for Pilots is more than enough. Study your basic aero principals, wx and fronts, basic turbine engine AND accessories and the techniques of how a large jet is properly controlled in a crosswind. Rec on the Cog skills that you practice the examples twice even if you think you have the hang of it. Three times and Tony will have to reset for you. This happened to most of us so no penalty there. Psych test is be yourself but think about your answer to the "tolerance of alternative lifestyles" question. Seems like something that can trip you up. Good luck.

Quick question--are you guys taking in separate letters or recommendation or you just using the ones in your application that were submitted by email? Thanks

They won't accept separate LOR's at your interview. If you want them to see it, it's got to be submitted by email attached to your application. Make sure it's sent in at least a week before your interview. They'll pull your application a few days before you show up. Good luck!

I asked during the panel portion of my interview if it would be ok to leave them with a letter of recommendation (just one, from my wing commander). They said sure...and I got the job (FWIW). I wouldn't go overboard with a stack of letters, though.
