There are plenty of SIC's that got into airlines fairly early in the game and never upgrade because of no growth. I was at Air Jamaica for 9 years in the right seat. Great job, just no PIC time. The need wasn't there to upgrade any faster. JetBlue is aware of applicants out there that can bring major 320 and 190 time to the table, but they didn't qualify due to the PIC restrictions. So there you go.
Don't most airlines hire pilots that make good Captains? How do they discern who's a good Captain and who's not if they have no PIC time?
I don't think turbine PIC specificly is important, but PIC time I believe is.

The biggest misconseption is that hours=job/interview. Total hours will help (obviously), but the most important thing is face time with recruiters and how they percieve you...personality, appearence, and well spoken. jetblue hires pilots based on how well they will interact with the pax first and foremost. For years the two heads of the hiring department were ex. cart donkeys. The piont again is just because you have 10k hours of 121 pic doesn't entitle you to squat in this industry!

How hard is it to commute on reserve at Jet Blue? Any plans for them to serve the Dallas area in the future?

I agree. However, the biggest misconception here seems to be that JetBlue is hiring!

I sure wish they were though.

Here is where your "big misconception" could be generating from.

FltOps.com: Pilot Job Fairs

Says JetBlue will be a FltOps.com Pilot Career Fair in LGA. Hiring minimums 1500 hours. Hope to get picked up

I agree PIC time is important, but ...

Maybe Jet Blue is figuring good pilots at Companies that have stagnated and shrunk are excellent pilots. No offense to anyone, but if I were at US Air, I'd be looking for another airline to fly for. Some good people have gotten trapped at under-performing airlines in the right seat due to the PIC minimums.

We got some Delta furloughees at my little airline who did not have any PIC to speak of and they were terrific pilots.

Anyone know why their website still says they're not hiring?

Because they aren't hiring.

From JetBlue | Pilot Hiring Update

Thank you for your interest in the First Officer position at JetBlue Airways.

As a result of unprecedented fuel prices and the ensuing effect those costs have on our business, we are reviewing our staffing requirements and are not accepting any applications for First Officer positions at this time.

We sincerely appreciate your interest in JetBlue and recommend that you periodically access our website for updates to our hiring outlook as well as the most current information about our minimum and competitive qualifications.

Again, thank you for honoring us by considering JetBlue as a prospective employer.

While they may not be looking to put people in class before the end of the year or even early next year, they must want to scout some "talent" if they're coming out to the job fair this weekend. I would say if you're interested, it can't hurt to go say hi!
