Smile 757 Winglet

Hey Folks, Maybe I'm "Ole School"...But I HATE the new winglets on a "75"... I have been trying to conform,..but as a Capt on the airplane, I'm sorry I think it takes away from the ...sexiness of the bird. Of course maybe I am wrong and maybe I need to wake up to the times...Your opinions... Vernon

We all understand the benefits of wingletted aircraft… the ability to attain higher initial cruise altitude at a given takeoff weight, better fuel efficiency on long flights, and runway performance.

However, IMHO it appears to be a model airplane that has mutated into something really bad, or created in some mad scientist laboratory ala Swamp Thing, or plastic surgery gone bad.

On the other hand… winglets on the 737 make an ugly airplane not so ugly… maybe just homely.

Who knows… maybe the wingletted 757 will get the same constructive criticism that the good old reliable FLUFF receives. Nah.

I would have to agree, I don't like the look of the winglets on the 757 but maybe as time goes on we will learn to appreciate them.

AA donated a 767-300 for a year to get certified for winglets. It's due back this summer.
I don't think the 75's look bad with winglets.

I really don't care what it looks like... If some wizard figures out that you can put a 10 foot tall shark fin on the airplane and it burns 5% less gas, so be it!

I flew the 757 winglet aircraft for two years. I think they look good. Plus the 4% fuel savings helped those New York to Berlin and back flights.

It's only about 4-4.5% saving IF you are at long range cruise and at optimum altitude. Now I fly the 737 with winglets.

I'm surprised to hear you say that. I love the look. I guess I feel like they've made a great airplane even better and I appreciate that. Maybe I'm just jealous because I'm unlikely to ever fly it. BTW can even see them from the flight deck of a 757?

I like the look of the 757 with winglets. One thing I don't like though is the 757-300 and I am refering to sitting in the back. That is the most unconfortable aircraft to ride in, not to mention that it takes for ever and a day to deplane when sitting in row 82.

The best jumpseat I ever sat in though was a DC10...anyone agree/disagree?
