Job Fairs
I have my application up to date on the major apps website we all know about. I have only just upgraded about 4-5 months ago and am starting to get some quality left seat time. Until now I have had a lot of right seat time in quality operations, but am just now getting the PIC time I need.
Anyway, I am curious about the job fairs, specifically the Air Inc. ones. There is one coming up on Jan. 26 in Dallas and I am very curious about it.
Do I need to pay the $100+ to Air Inc. just to see who will be there? Does being there really help secure an interview?
How many folks who have had some success with the major/legacy carriers got their break by going to a job fair?
Any tips or ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

saab, no, you don't need to pay to see who will be there. There are links in the guests section of the air, inc website that will get to the current job fair and who will be there.
I have heard that some don't even pay to be at the job fair and being at one this year, I can see where someone could get some face time with the recruiters without paying. Me, I paid. One, because I was using someone else's services. Two, I didn't want to be the guy that got caught and got on some bad lists.
I'm a military guy so I think that helped a lot with being pushed up in the stacks, but I really think that my time at the job fair and who I talked to got me going in the interview process with CAL. I didn't have any internals when I was asked to interview which was only a couple of weeks after the job fair. Delta and NWA came in a little later. All without any internal help other than talking to the recruiters at the job fair.
Hope it helps. I know some will badmouth the fairs and I can see their point in some ways. Me, the $100+ was insignificant in the job search.

Saab,
I went to the Washington D.C. Air, Inc. job fair, and have no doubt that the face time with the recruiters was extremely helpful. Delta e-mailed the Monday after the fair to set up an interview, and within two weeks I had also received an interview offer from CAL. I had no internal recs from either company. I'll admit that I wasn't thrilled with paying the registration fees, but as I was military and completely unfamiliar with the airline hiring process, the fee was money well spent. If DAL and other companies start holding their own job fairs, though, I would definitely save your money instead of using it on an Air Inc. fair.
Just my two cents.
