For you guys at the PAX Airlines
Did any of you guys ever consider going to a cargo carrier, ie. FDX, UPS, ABX?? If you did, why did you decide to go to the pax airlines even with the excellent pay?? Was it quality of life?

I try not to think about where I'd be sitting if I had accepted UPS
Thanks for reminding me.

The pax carriers had a better QOL AND paid a lot better - until after 9/11. Thats like saying why didn't everyone go to SWA for the better pay. Well its been the decline of the legacys the last 5 years combined with the rise of the cargo/SWA. Historically, a fair amount of guys left the cargo for the pax but now the opposite is true. Go figure-Nascar is letting the foreign automakers race and smoking is no longer cool.

Actually, the Camry is the only car that is made in the USA. The others are made in Canada or Mexico.

i did the 747-400 thing at atlas for a few years. was alot of fun BUT 19 day trips s*!* . fighting to get a whopping 3 landings a month S*!@ed. getting the trots once a month Suc@ed. eating chicken and steak that does not taste or look like chicken or steak suc*ed.got to see the rest of the world on someone else's nickel was cool. but its not a old mans gig. or a married mans gig.washing your cloths in the sink got a lil old too!!!! glamorous it was!!! lol
when i was younger the fatigue thing didnt bother me much. but now forget about it. sleeping 3 hours ,flying, sleeping 3 more hours at a sort getting home for a few more just does not work for me. some are ok with it and like it. with whats going on in the industry at the moment i would be happy to be anywhere that there is some growth and a pay check!!!

I looked real hard at the frieght carriers and would work at UPS. FedEx's situation has changed a little. The LOA, China, Alaska, and age 60+ SO's waiting on their chance to bid back to the Left Seat have all given me reason to reconsider what was an easy first choice.
Delta is a nice place to work and I'm enjoying the MD88. FedEx has not been hiring recently, but it seems their cycle goes out of phase with Delta's.
My wife does not want to live in ANC, or China. She would go to Paris in a heartbeat, but I afford Paris, not so much!

Up until 9/11 the question answers itself, but after that.... ? I had MUCH better connections at FedEX than Delta, but I always wanted to fly for Delta and can't really explain why FedEx never turned me on. Who knows, it could all change again. It was only 8 years ago FedEx was full of people waiting on a Delta/United/American class date. I knew dozens of them.
