I will disagree on this. Yes, you can bid off the -9, but you will get a 4 year freeze on the 320 or 757 (narrow body to narrow body). Same thing for wide bodies. Going from one to the other, 4 year freeze ( or going wide body to narrow body). But, going from narrow body to wide body, 2 yr freeze. This can be broken if going to first Cpt position, BUT, any time left on your freeze will be applied to the capt postion.

You are incorrect! There is only a freeze from A320 to B757 or widebody to widebody. You can make any upgrade or transiton from the DC-9 and only have a 2 year freeze. I will try to find the exact wording from the contract. Standby.....

Here it is straight from the contract. 24.E.3a....
All of the following are 48 month freezes:
-Widebody Captain or F/O to another Captain or F/O position
-DC-9 Captain to Widebody F/O position
-A320 Captain or F/O to B757 Captain or F/O positon
-Any higher pay position to a lower paying position

If displaced out of seat to any other position:24 month freeze(same as old contract)
Upgrade or transition from DC-9 Captain or F/O to any other higher paying position:24 month freeze

Does anyone know if those last APA awards to DTW 320 (R) were new hires? (SSN #533x and emp #270xxx) If so, are they getting those positions during indoc or are they bidding them while they are in -9 school?

The first new hire had a seniority number of 5300. Not sure as to the timing of the awards.

Thanks DL,

Those last awards came out on the APA that was just released. But, from the look of things with new hires senority of 5300, they have been going to the 320 for a little while. Do you know anything about the freezes?

I'm flying with a lot of guys/gals who when recalled off furlough incured a 2 year freeze on the DC-9 and I'm sure they will be wondering why they can't get the 320 or 757.

There are some "new-hires" that are former ATI's on the 320. They were hired onto the DC-9, but bid the 320 right away in training. I don't know if they were actually trained on the 9, but they are now on the 320.
The 2 year freeze really sucks for the recalled guys. If they were former 320 or 727 guys, they incurred the dreaded 2 year freeze. If they had been on the 9 before they have a 6 month freeze. I wish for their sake they could bid the 320 or 757 right away, but it think it comes down to training costs and how the contract reads.

Does it matter how long ago on the -9 (for the 6 month freeze), or does it count as long as that was the last airplane you trained on? Any guesses?

The people I fly with on the -9 with the long (2 year) freeze never flew it before they were recalled. As in they were mostly 727 s/os or f/o's when they were furloughed. If you flew the -9 before, I think you are off the long hook.

so why would guys coming off furlough be stuck with a 2 year seat lock on the 9 and new hires can bid off. Did they choose to fly the 9 and not the 320/757? That seems a little unfair to those pilots...
