SWA to buy Air Tran?
#21
The other thing is the Legacies cost will ALWAYS be slightly higher than SWA. That's common sense. The figures I see are in the 9-11 range, not 14. At any rate, I have to get ready for work. Take care.

Delta's mainline unit cost (CASM) of 10.13 cents for the third quarter of 2007 represented a slight decrease compared to the third quarter of 2006(4). Excluding expenses from profit sharing, mainline non-fuel CASM was 6.50 cents, a decline of nearly 3%.

The sources I have seen show a much closer casm gap. I have a trip starting tomorrow, so I will have to dig them up when I get back.

I have no dog in this fight. SWA is not really on my short list of future employers. But I really admire how they operate. Low CASM, product that is equal to or better than most legacies, simple ticket purchasing, motivated staff at all levels.
The other majors need to look no further than SWA to figure out how to do it.
SWA has figured out that you can lead employees where you want them to go. You cannot push them to go where they don't want to go. You can lead a bunch of cats. But try herding them.
SWA gets it. The other majors don't really get it.

I admitted I was wrong about ATA. It was late and I was tired. There was an infusion of cash from SWA. Everything else I will have to debate at a later date. I have a trip tomorrow. Before I do go, please clarify the $39.00 fare to L.A. comment. Thanks in advance and take care.

Go to Southwest.com and look at the advance fares from SFO to LAX. $39. It's not hard to find $49 advance fares to many other locations.

Futurman, You are correct, thanks for actually reading what I typed. This was a domestic CASM comparison report. It was presented to our union for our current contract negotiations so it could compare apples to apples, nothing more. The only reason for posting was to counter the "match the cost structure of SWA" statement.
