Delta, pilots hearing resumes tomorrow in bankruptcy court
NEW YORK (AP) - A hearing on Delta Air Lines' bid to get out from its contract with its pilots resumes tomorrow in federal bankruptcy court in New York.
The pilots have balked at Delta's demand for 325 (m) million dollars in concessions. They say it adds up to more life a-half (b) billion when you figure in an end to pension contributions. On top of the one (b) billion dollars in give-backs the pilots agreed to last year, they say it's a 51-percent pay cut.
Delta says without the concessions, it could go out of business.
Bankruptcy judge Prudence Carter Beatty has criticized both sides. At one point, she called pilot compensation "hideously high." At another, she blasted Delta for, in her words, "throwing darts" at the pilots' union.
