I wish that I would have known this earlier. I would have told my high school guidance counselor that I did not want to be an airline pilot... they do not make enogh money, and they have to work too much. What I realy want to do is be the head of ALPA and do nothing and get more money than a physician.

Wait are you telling me that Lame Woethless is making $412,728 a year PLUS $7500/month for ****ing HOUSING and MEALS?
That would be roughly the equivalent of making $505/block hour assuming a 1000 hrs of flying a year.
Thank god I'm a FORMER ALPA member. I mean the magazine's nice, but not that nice... Good to know my dues were put to good use.

i'll tell you what's happened at CAL... the darkest day i can recall since i joined CAL in 1987 came a little over a year ago when duane woerth, CAL's CEO Larry Kellner, and the chairman of our MEC Jay Panarello all stood around getting their pictures taken together as they signed off on our "Partnership Accord" with management. until that moment, i actually believed our problems lie solely with the fact that virtually our entire union structure at CAL is controlled by scabs. that day awakened me.
the alpa structure is rotting from the top down and no amount of "partnership" deals with the devil can fix it. woerthless has determined that alpa national must be preserved and if the entire piloting profession has to go down the drain to do so, why he's only happy to oblige.
when this deal was signed, we were already in concession talks. once the deal was signed, the pace of those talks accelerated dramatically. the company had said all along that they wanted the concessions done by feb 28th, 2005. once the partnership accord was signed, i predicted that the company would get EVERYTHING they wanted and ON TIME. i was castigated by many of my fellow pilots and had the head of the negotiating committee call me at thome to tell me that i was wrong and that we were going to carefully study the companies proposal but that, in any case, a deal before summer was not likely. i continued to insist that they had sold us out and that we would have a deal on the companies time table.
on feb 27th, a deal was signed. the final language was not even close to being done and, in fact, many things agreed upon and sold to us were changed after the vote. we did not have final contract language until about 2 months ago.
we have now watched this same scenario play out at DL and NW and will watch these once-great carriers be reduced to wal-mart levels. this will, in turn, allow the company come back to us for more, and more, and more.
this is ALPA NATIONALS DOING!
my advice for ANY pilot group considering unionizing is to stay as far away from alpa as possible. they will sell you out in a heartbeat to save themselves.
