After the interview, all the interviewers and LOI people get together and give you a thumbs up or a thumbs down. The thumbs up people get their references checked. The thumbs down people get put into another pile.
Everyone that interviews goes to the DB. The Chief pilots all get together and decide who is hired. They also take a quick look at the "thumbs down" pile, but from what I've been told, they hardly ever overturn the decision of the interviewers.
I'm by no means an expert on the process...this is just how its been explained to me over the years.

Best of luck to everyone. I know the wait sucks. I had a friend that didn't hear anything by the second Monday after the DB (12 days!). He finally called the PD and they said that it was a paperwork mess up on who was supposed to call him. But the wait was worth it and he was hired. HANG IN THERE GUYS!

I got the call...
I got a call today from the Asst. Chief of BWI. I am very stoked! He said that he is no expert but he thinks that the soonest I will see a class date would be February.
The call is interesting... they say "congrats, you have been selected to continue in the hiring process" or words to that effect. Anyone have any idea what that means? By his choice of words, it sounds as if there is still much that could derail the process.
From my hiring group there are about 6 or 7 that got letters today and yesterday. I feel bad for them, all of those guys were class acts.....
Congrats to those that got the call!

Congrats! The stuff about continuing the process is standard for everyone. They have to complete the background check on you (takes 6 weeks) and do your drug test (only good for 6 months prior to class). Unless you have any skeletons in the closet you are good to go! But you aren't "hired" and an employee until you start class.
Congrats.

Congrats to those joining the pool.
Bags, in answer to your question, you don't get the official offer of employment until you get a class date. Since you still have to pee in the bottle, and SWA has to finish up your background check, they reserve final judgement on whether they still hire you. Unless you have some major skeletons in the closet that you didn't mention in the interview, there isn't too much to worry about. Mostly a formality for most.

If guys being hired on this current DB are being told Feb class dates are possible, there's got to me more classes based on the size of the pool.
