Flight Attendant Poverty?

Funny story—my FA spouse and I compared social security statements. For the first ten years of my aviation career she outearned me by a lot. She’s been an FA for 25 years. Three years ago she made almost 110K because she is driven to pay off debt (paid off her car). At SWA She worked 200 TFP/month.
Some FAs are very hard workers; however, my wife will tell you that those hired in the past few years have changed all that.

Yes, they are our co-workers and there primarily for passenger safety but topping out in the six figures still makes me scratch my head.
Meanwhile EMT median salary from 3 separate sources seems to float around $37K. First year pay is tough, but as they progress, they are paid extremely well for their job requirements/duties IMO.

Ok. Well that individual is off because FAs and Pilots are not one in the same; hence my point.

Im not really using Glassdoor,.... due to my significant other being in that industry....most of our social circle (switch to Samuel L. Jackson voice) which basically is my social circle are teachers. (change back to normal voice) Almost all make six figures or very close to it. They have been playing ball for 10+ years and are in districts that would be considered "legacies". So maybe that is not an a accurate sample.
But I can tell you......they certainly don't think they make a lot. That is not to say I agree or disagree with them.

Not picking on unions per se, rather the seniority model.
If you're in a seniority system, you can't really leave unless you want to start over at the bottom somewhere else, or change industries. So people tend to be locked in, and employers will take advantage of that when they can get away with it.
Even in a downturn, most white collar workrs can find a new and better job if their employer mistreats them. Might take some hustle is all.

Using the much lower paid EMT example, a current opening in DE has two certification requirements (State Exam and Emer. Vehicle Operator), plus High School Diploma. I honestly don't know of any other unskilled, entry level job that will net you six figures in 12 years just for clocking in and doing your job.
Start at 18, making 100K at 30 with minimal debt most likely; that's pretty good.

Im not sure I understand your logic......you seem to support the idea that compensation should be dictated by free market forces......right up to the point when someone who you deem unskilled earns a bit of coin.

In the United States, the median annual salary for flight attendants was $68,370 in May 2023. The lowest 10% of flight attendants earned less than $39,580, while the highest 10% earned more than $104,100.
The average teacher salary in the United States for the 2023–2024 school year is $71,699, according to the National Education Association (NEA). The average starting teacher salary is $44,530.
How many teachers moonlight as strippers. And is there a Pornhub category for that?

Have you ever saw what it says for Airline Pilot?
Luckily we have this website for more accurate info, but keep in mind those outside our industry may think that is an accurate representation.

His name was Chip Childs, and the current CEO's of all three legacies are no different they see all LABOR the same, they only tolerate the inconvenient truth that Pilots are Highly skilled LABOR and are not replaceable.
