How many teachers moonlight as strippers. And is there a Pornhub category for that?
Your idea of a benchmark for reasonable pay is a teacher? I take it you don't know any teachers.

Here's a crazy idea: If you're a multi billion dollar company, then pay your employees a salary that they can live on, in reasonable proximity to their place of work.

They don't have to, many are willing to commute, drive in from the burbs in traffic, or share a place with several other FA's (half of whom will typically be gone at any given time). What the market will bear.

Also union labor is a double-edged sword... unions can get you lots of good stuff, but you can also get stuck with an out of date CBA in a bad economic climate, with no leverage. All the big majors missed the latter fate by a matter of months IMO. Recruiting/retention were THE big drivers of our gains a year or two ago... but nobody needs that today in 2024 (well maybe boeing).

Since "living wage" was mentioned, what is that exactly? Enough for a 40 y/o single mom to raise three kids with all the middle class trimmings plus college? There are plenty of jobs which simply cannot support those economics. I might pay $7 for a cappucino if I happen to be walking by the coffee shop but raise it $17 and not a chance. I have a very nice espresso machine at home, and if I didn't already I buy one pronto. A single 20-something person might be perfectly happy as a barista, but most don't need the full living wage of a suburban household head.

Not every job needs to be a career, I'd argue that many should not be.

how would this have gone differently without a union?

Flight attendants do not get compensated with a salary, they work just like you by the hour......and if they are reserve they get MMG.

Teachers ......can't speak for the ones in Illinois or Texas, but in New Jersey and New York (where like EWR is) are compensated VERY well. That is not to say they are not deserving of such compensation. They have a very STRONG union that advocates and negotiates on thier behalf, which teachers in some states don't have such a strong union. They also get the entire summer off and EVERY weeekend.

Im not sure whose side you are on, but I have never met a teacher in New Jersey with tenure who quit to become a flight attendant. I have met flight attendants who were trying to acquire their teaching credentials.

I've met plenty of former teachers that are flight attendants. Your anecdotes are noted

From a handful of posts back, FAs making 100K+/yr? I mean, hey, hustle and earn it, but really? I'm sorry, but FA duties do not warrant that kind of $. AITA?
