As others have said, buddy passes are mostly useless and only go to people I trust 100%.
I've given them to a close relative who follows exactly what I say to a T, and she knows that if I say it might be iffy, she buys a ticket.
I also let my buddy who is a retired military grunt use them in the past. He's a no BS kind of guy who "gets it". 330am wakeup to catch the 5am flight and only travel with a backpack and sit in the seat assigned to him and never bother a flight attendant or gate agent? Here ya go!

The use case for me is a buddy that gets into a jam and needs a last minute ride somewhere - I'll check the load and if it's wide open I'll get them a pass. As others mentioned as long they're a known quantity and understand the risks, it's a nice thing to be able to do for someone. But the stars don't align very often.
