It’s akin to insider trading, IMO. When executives are overwhelmingly compensated in stock options, it really only serves to pump up the stock price at our expense, and their personal benefit.

In the case of large publicly held companies, you can make the case that the practice is too manipulative, which it can very well be on a case by case basis.

But that's like banning alcohol because some people are bad drunks (been tried actually).

Probably better to regulate the practice to prevent abuse for the specific benefit of a few insiders. Also limit amounts, timing, and maybe managers who hold stock need it to be in a blind trust such that it cannot be used to either manipulate share prices or benefit from manipualtion (there are already some such limits in place, but probably not enough in my layman observation).

Yeah like a minimum threshold of liquidity and profitability (after employee bonuses too ).

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 751 told Reuters that the new package includes a 35% pay hike over four years, a new incentive plan and a $7,000 ratification bonus.

The corporation is also offering employees 12% in 401(k) contributions, plus a one-time contribution of $5,000 to workers' retirement accounts.

WSJ today broached the previously taboo topic of bankruptcy or breakup of boeing.
