The system sucks, and it's why I am glad that places like SpaceX and Starlink are, for now, at least, staying private. It allows for the business to develop outside of the yearly bonus structure most corps use.
My wifes cousin is a C level executive at a company you've heard of.

His salary is impressive but the bonuses are where he makes real money.

And they are all tied to 3-10 year horizons. He gets the bonus for things he does now in 2027-2034.

Even if he moces on. Or his daughters get it if he's no longer living.

It is a well run company because they don't care about short term profits as long as the long-term plan is good.

But very few companies do this.

Yeah that is great, I wish they all did this. I feel like it would make for a much more stable and healthy corporate culture.

not to get political but wasnt it the Clinton administration that got rid of the rule that prohibited C suite from getting paid in their own company stocks, thusly, stopping the inflating of stock prices to line your own pockets.
I could be wrong tho

the clinton tax bill didn’t allow for executive compensation in stock or bonuses. that was allowed before the bill. it did place a cap on certain compensation as deductible, though.

thanks. I must have remembered it wrong. Although such things were not as important to me or ubiquitous as they are now.

It was during Reagen that stock buy backs were legalized, as long as we aren't political....

I'm not in favor of stock buybacks specifically because it shows a business has run out of ideas for increasing revenue with it's cash, but in what rational could the govt outlaw stock buybacks?

Because they’re able to manipulate the price of the stock directly.
