what about all the news articles with worker quotes saying the timing was terrible?

"This past week, Ortberg closed on a $4.1 million home in a gated community in Seattle to be nearer the flagship factories for Boeing.

The opulent purchase from their new CEO has been criticized by Boeing workers as evidence the company can pay their workers more"

"I am a Machinist on Strike, last year i tried to purchase my first home. I was turned down for a $500k loan to purchase the home. The bank told me i dont make enough to afford the mortgage and mortgage insurance... This Strike is so we might be able to get back into the middle class."

"We know they got the money. If they can pay the CEO, they can pay us too," Boeing worker Ethel Dominique told FOX 13.

"You know, we're not asking for much. And we're happy that he can afford a nice new mansion, some of us can't. Some of us are paycheck to paycheck," added Dominique."

Agree the optics could be better, but come on. When the story refers to a $4M home as an “opulent” purchase for a Fortune 100 CEO in a very high cost of living area, you don’t think that’s embellishing just a little? Agree with others that overall, the CEO coming back to the Puget Sound area & buying a very modest (yes, relatively) home there is a very good thing for the company overall. I also wish the machinists the very best of luck & hope they are successful in re-joining & re-invigorating the middle class. This is a case of more than one thing being true at the same time. Save the manufactured outrage.

Good for them!

How does it compare with other workers in the industry?

Very emotional response that lacks rational logical application. I suppose everyone operates differently in dealing with life.

The emotional reaction is anger, the logical response is appreciation of the relative modesty of the home he selected, as well as the fact he is moving to Seattle.

I’m sure there are plenty of 20 mil plus estates he would have also liked to purchase, 4 million for a CEO for better or worse is the equivalent of a captain purchasing a 300k home. Nobody faults labor being upset in the heat of the moment, but the reality is it’s a very prudent and necessary move regardless of timing. If you’d take a step back you’d find more common ground

It seems like you missed the posts where I said:

"in the grand scheme of things it is a GREAT move, to have the CEO back at the factory town."

"I think it's great that the CEO of Boeing is finally back in the factory town"

"I wish him and Boeing the best of luck"

.....maybe you can go back and read them now
