That's all I need to know!

To say I PITY their souls would be a huge understatement.

JFK to the British isles is already min credit on a 3 day. Honestly most JFK-western Europe is usually worth less than 17:30 for a 3 day unless it’s Italy. And Rome is only like 18:30.

at least for DL NYC 7ER, 48 and 72 hour overnights go very senior. both because of the higher credit and the longer time to see the city.

AA out of JFK had a couple of 2 pilot LHR trips when I did them a year and a half ago. Criteria for 2 man was report before noon and no flying through WOCL.

At the same time AA used to do 75/76 trips to EDI and DUB with 3 pilots. LHR was the only 2 pilot destination.

Europe? Not many. Too damn expensive. Plus they're not as desparate. MIA and S. America is the sweet spot...in more ways then one. ;-)

There was no "report before noon" requirement. There were also late 2 man flights. PHL had evening 2 man to Europe and JFK used to, perhaps only pre 2014 rewrite of Part 117, have 2 man trips to Europe. PHL 2 man trips were post Part 117 changes. WOCL and departure time coming back did drive some of the scheduled departure/arrival times.

In my experience the 2 man to Europe post Part 117 rewrite in 2014 was LHR-JFK and PHL-DUB. PHL-DUB was 2 man in the summer and 3 man in the winter. IDK if Part 117 required the 3 man in the winter or if they just had some many extra FO's in the off season that they threw an FB on for operational integrity in the winter vs having them stay at home while the flight operated as a 2 man. A 3 man crew can always launch to somewhere if 1 pilot gets sick. A 2 man crew's flight is cancelled in most circumstances.

Thanks for the correction. I did the JFK LHR and I did not remember doing it on the evening departure but I checked my logbook and I did see doing the first afternoon flight as a two man on a couple of occasions. The long time chief pilot in JFK, Tony, was a big advocate for the 3 man crews, I think that's why we had them on the 75/76 while PHL had some 2 man trips as you said to DUB.

I will say that having that 3rd person in the flight deck when the sun was coming up as you land in Euroville was very nice. Well, when they weren't nodding off in the jumpseat. 😉

At United We pretty much only do 4 days to DUB if the trip is un-augmented (summer winds)… only time an unaugmented trip goes senior is when it’s on the 767-400 because it pays $60/hr more an hour than the 757-200 and 767-300.

Generally unaugmented trips go very junior… for obvious reasons (no rest). You might see sporadic 4-5 day trips around holidays or in locations (AMM, TLV, etc) that don’t need daily service…

That’s when you give the plumber some stick time. Now it’s an aisle donkey working on learning the screens. Which, to be fair, keeps the focus up. Up is good.

who you work for… Delta? At United we bid trips by seat position (Flying FO vs IRO)… we (Captains) don’t “give” or assign stick time… FO’s bid it by seniority… and We let them fly what they bid unless they offer to voluntarily give the flying seat up.
