Jumpseaters: why enter the cockpit so early?
Why do you do this?
The etiquette used to be always come down with the last of the passengers so as not to crowd the flight deck.
In the last few years, I have seen an influx of jumpseaters who come down the jetbridge 35 mintues before departure and crowd the flight deck awkwardly staring over us as we do our business.
I can't really ask them to stand in the jetbridge because TSA regulations don't allow them to leave once boarded. Some stations enforce this more than others.
Please stop doing this.
Oh yeah... don't make me ask for your documents. Hand them over as you ask for a ride.

At SWA it’s a benefit to board early. We don’t assign seats (yet), so it’s beneficial to board and stow bags in a good spot in case you need to sit up front. If you don’t end up on the deck, you have secured a decent spot. It’s especially useful on a 35 minute turn.

Understand that this pilot is not trying to be an inconvience, but they are just trying to get to work to make a living or are trying to get home to their families. They dont want to be there any more than you want them there. Just be happy that the jumpseat exists for when you need it too.
Oh ya...and the bag thing. Especially on the 737.

I board before any passengers. I talk to the captain, stow my bag then hang out in the jet bridge until the agent comes down with either a thumbs up or thumbs down for a seat. Why does this bother you?

But when I did, there was the rare occsasions that the agent would give the paperwork and say "go down now". I wouldn't argue, go down and tell them the agent sent me down, would do the usual meet/greet with certs/docs, and then simply tell them "I'll wait on the jetway". Never had a problem.
Had years of this, and typical, was ALWAYS on the 73.

So we can stow our bag, that's literally the only reason. You think I enjoy standing there having every passenger stare at me as they pass by? I've had to check my bag then go pick it up at the bag carousal in the past when jumpseating because there was no room for my bag when I boarded last and the Captain/FAs had zero interest helping me out. If you want the jumpseater to board last then be proactive and go up there and assure them they will have a space for their bag. When I ever see we have a possibility of a jumpseater I always brief the FAs to make sure to leave room in the closet for their bag.
On a side note you can always tell the CAs who have never been a commuter or at least hasn't commuted in over a decade. Like this guy.
