There is actually, but in practice they only do it for strollers and wheelchairs. There isn't anything saying they can't do it, just saying they have to for wheelchairs and strollers. They "can" do it for non-revs and jumpers but most don't....

They have valet tags for specifical equipment, yes. But in the last 10 years, I've never once seen them valet a bag.

I honestly think how DL boards jumpseaters is so bad compared to everyone else, that you just can’t comprehend what everyone is saying here. That’s not a slam, it’s just conditioning.

No one is saying what you stated above.

And most of the time, no gate agent starts clearing nonrevs from our OWN company more than 30 minutes out domestically because that’s the cut off to change your priority. Then after they deal with that they get to you. I hate the system too, but dang, so sorry the free ride has you that upset.
Because that’s how OAL people list. It’s how it works. You’re taking this too personally.

Yeah... I'm DL and I know it's bad. Most gate agents don't even clear any non-revs even on an open flight until 15 prior to departure. Leaving me always scrambling to find a place for my bags on my RJ commute. As a captain if I see an OAL jumpseater at the gate I always tell them they can board with me and tell the gate agent what's happening. And if I don't see them I always tell them when they do check in with me on the plane to come get me if they can't find a place for their bags so that I can move some things around and help out. DL is definitely one of the worst to commute on.. even for us DL guys.

I just don’t understand why people think they should be able to go down and store bags before they are cleared. Which is what was said. Yes our system sucks. It sucks for us. Sucks for y’all. Sucks for everyone. Sorry you don’t like it.

Other airlines usually clear you for the jumpseat and then IF someone from that airline shows up last minute, they remove you. Makes it much easier for the jumpseater.

Ok, fine. But nuance and tone of voice can be lost in the interwebs. Misunderstanding is all too easy, which is why I said “surely you aren’t saying…”.

It’s not like any of us have even the tiniest control over how our company/gate agents clear folks. None. Yet people love to pounce on any perceived weakness. The best we can do is be vigilant with the GA and ‘make the walk’.

On overall policy that’s 100% true, but luckily we do have a lot of leeway on what we can do to help mitigate the issues. I do exactly what m3113n1a1 does. I’ve never had a gate agent say “no” to the top priority jumpseater boarding with the crew.
