flying can be good in a base that is a PITA to commute out of. Idk what you want. I was based there for awhile and changed for the commute. I’d prefer the flying in NYC but eventually decided to do less desirable flying for a much easier commute.

If you want variety in international flying across the Atlantic with opportunities to fly other kinds of trips as well there isn’t a better category than NYC7ER.

Most WB pilots at AA are Commuters. Just wondering why it goes so junior at other places if it is so great. Maybe we have different definitions of great.

It’s a combination of NYC and seat locks. A pilot hired onto the 737, 320, or 220 can’t bid the ER in NY until they have been here for 2 years. By that time many who would otherwise probably want to fly intl out of NY are probably approaching holding the 330 and (especially if hired into the 320) probably don’t want to do an extra trip to Virginia ave.

You don’t seem to understand that the 7ER category has both the 757 which doesn’t do ocean crossings (except KEF), and the 767, which does both domestic and international (much more international in the summer). So while it does some WB flying, it’s not a WB category.

Along with it being NYC, that keeps some folks away from the NYC 7ER. In the years before Covid, the 7ER was a “tweener” seniority category, where Captain took an extra 3-5 years to hold over NB, but less than a WB-only category. Covid changed a lot of things, including that. Plus, the classic 75/76 is starting to feel old these days.

But again, different strokes for different folks. But a look at the bid packet is easy to see the great trips.

I think this has to do more with the fact that junior NB CA QoL sucks moreso than junior WB FO for not that much more pay. Being a jr WB FO at AA is equivilent to other airlines jr WB QoL.. but with less destinations. You'll still be commuting to a coast if you don't already live there, just no reserve rules like UA.

The NB game just sucks the life out of you at AA then when you can finally hold WB, it just FEELS like a different airline that is a million times better.

767-757 pay the same as the long airbuses now.
The 75/76 is old and ugly, it's worse than the 737. I never understood why people like those planes. "Oh it performs so well". Why do you care? 1500 fpm vs 3000 fpm is just what your vsi says at the end of the day.

Worse than the 737? Are you kidding?
Even if you want to talk about better screens as an advantage, and maybe the hud (flown one before, meh), just look at the overhead panel. Then look behind you from the FO seat at your bag, oh wait you can’t. Get up and stretch on a transcon. Nope, can’t do that either. That cockpit is an absolutely torture device.

I fly tons of transcons on the 737 and have zero problems getting up and stretching.
I regularly grab stuff from my overnight bag stowed under the 2nd jump seat without ever needing to get up
The overhead panel and throttle quadrant kick a$$! Total throw back from the 1960s, very old school.. exactly the way I love it. The fact that I can still trim manually and connect generators the way my forefathers did in the '60s adds a special touch of nostalgia to my daily work. The aircraft flies great and performs well... what's not to love?

You pretty much described every reason why I absolutely love the 737.

Yes I flew the 75/76 many years and loved it too... also very old school.
