Add to that a low paying job with access to a security work around(KCM), and we can’t be at all surprised when this sort of thing happens. Of course it isn’t PC, but to give FA’s the same KCM privileges as pilots who spent years/decades in the system before achieving their positions is ludicrous.
Guess we better revoke KCM from all those pilots hired with a wet ATP too, because they haven't spent years/decades in the system either.

KCM is way more stringent than what many airports do for non-crew employees... at many airports they just swipe a SIDA badge and go in a side door with no screening at all.

Pilots with an ATP have already been in the system for at least a few years, and subject to a variety of checks along the way. FA's can literally come out of nowhere.

Given the fundamental differences in background and access between pilots and FA's, it's ridiculous to just assume that we should all get the same screening. Bottom line, pilots don't need to bring anything through security to crash a plane.

I'd argue that having two pilots in the flight deck is the single most effective deterrent against that and any tool, weapon or policy that eliminates that deterrent is what we should fight. So yes, having a hidden, illegal weapon in your bag is a problem. Having a JS with an illegal weapon is a problem.

How many pilots who got caught with a firearm were inadvertent scenerios? As opposed to FAs intentionally bringing illegal substances through?

Never mix a range bag and a flight bag.

That's what blows my mind.

My flight and range bags don't look similar, aren't even on the same floor of the house.

No they haven't. They've been flying circles in the sky with students trying to kill them for 1500 hours and passed a few check rides that have nothing to do with their background. There is absolutely no basis to assume they are any less of a security risk than a newly hired flight attendant.

Pilots get pulled over at security with guns on a somewhat regular basis too. Just because they don't need to bring anything doesn't mean they won't.

Frankly I don't care if pilots sometimes forget to take their glock out of their flight bag and bring it to work. Are they dumb AF? Yup. But they're not a security risk. They're careless rednecks, not AQ or PLO affiliates doing test runs. Again they don't even need weapons to engage in malign behavior.

The fact that cartels can routinely get mules into the FA ranks hints that other, even more nefarious organizations might also try that route eventually.
