NWA Hiring Scoop???
#31
Hi!
Here's some sun on NWA, and some general gloom to go around:
Gloom:
:
CAL has REALLY crappy 1st year pay, you might get based in Guam, and, for me, the basing options aren't good.
DAL-my buddy there, who's helping me try and get an interview said it was terrible and to go somewhere better (heard that before).
SWA-Just offered a buyout to 25% of their employees (NOT pilots), which, obviously, is not a good sign, unless you're certain SWA pilots who say it means they're doing great!!!???!!!
UPS-Not hiring, and a two-leg commute for me
FedEx-Not hiring for 12-18 months
UAL-Sounds even worse than NWA
USAir-Hiring soon-sounds TERRIBLE
Alaska-Interested, but it sounds really bad when you read all the posts, plus the commute is bad for me.
Some sunlight???
DAL: Sounds pretty good to me-decent basing options, decent pay, pay raises in current contract, buying a lot of planes, supposed to have the best travel benefits, not many mil guys applying so best opportunity for civvy guys.
NWA: My buddy is there. He said it's LOTS better than his old job (mine now). Further, he says it's about the same as before 911 except flies about 8 hours more a month and somewhat less pay. He is year 3 -9 FO and is making about $75K/year. He got $80K in the bankruptcy settlement. He is home a lot (lives in base)-more than in last job. Says NWA will either be buying the Boeing 100 seat aircraft (2010 or 2012-can't remember) or the Bombardier "C" airplane that is 100+ seats to replace the -9. Either airplane will be flown by NWA pilots, as all planes over 74? seats go to NWA. Buying -787s and -330s now. They are the LAUNCH customer for the -787.Also, talked to a bunch of -757 capts/fos who said it was a pretty good job. The commute would be EASY for me. Also, good chance of merging with DAL, which will help NWA, in my opinion (like they could replace the NWA mgmt with DAL mgmt!!!).
USA 3000: Hiring if 4000TT + and sounds like a good job if live in base (new hires DTW/ORD) OR if wanting to fly in Asia. All hires get -320 type, and with 500 hours u r elligible for a TON of great contracts in Asia
Atlas: Now new hires will get flow to STN (London) paid for by the company to start work. 747-8s on order and sounds like lots of growth and money ahead. Should be hiring in 6 months.
Good luck to you!

PS-If you want a -9 FO job paying $39 to start ($55/hr) with 13 hard days off, USA Jet is looking. Want 2000TT, 1300ME, 1 year crew time. PM me if you want details.

[quote=OOTSK;197676]Commuting is not pleasant in most cases. However, if one uses commuting as part of his/her criteria then they probably don't want the job that bad to begin with.

I must say...for the last two years I have been doing reserve from home and it is SWEET! If I ever have to change jobs again, I will live in base for sure!
BTW, someone kill me if I have to change jobs again.

NWA interview
I just received an unsolicited letter from NWA asking me to schedule an employment interview.
I was offered a job with them in Aug 2001. We all remember what happened the next month. I had not started class, and I recieved a letter "Regretting their ability to offer me a class date". That had been my last contact with them for 6 years.
Just letting you guys know that they have started recruiting again!

Why does NWA take so much heat for doing what USairways, United, Delta, American(to a lesser degree) have done with their employee contracts? I might argue that with the saved pension, they "imposed" fewer cuts on their employees. Sure the contract sucks compared to what we had, but please tell me what the alternative was, especially when the airline was losing millions of dollars a day? I get the feeling fellow employees would have preferred to stick their heads in the sand until all the money was gone, and then close the doors. Who wins with that?
NWA management stood side by side with the employees to save their pension in Washington DC, while Delta management made no attempt to push the pension legistlation through Congress. And all I hear is praise for Delta and their management. What gives?

THERE IS NOTHING THAT SAYS ANY PENSION IS GUARANTEED!!!
It is NOT part of the contract..
Side by side with management(IS that you MARK wearing that Nice commuting jacket in your picture with Stealin')-you ARE kidding RIGHT!!??
WOW... you did hear about those management bonuses-umm and where did that money come from?? It wasn't Stealin's fault that he got $26.5 million the BOD MADE him take it
Delta is doing a whole lot better as everything they got is IN THEIR CONTRACT.
Oh and how LONG is our contract?? Then of course with the usual NWA management?? style they will refuse to come to the table. Majority will be retired or dead before there is a new one.
To say the contract sucks is an understatement beyond belief.
VOTED NO!!

Guarantee, Schmarauntee
Even if it IS part of the contract, it's only one BK or concession away from jeopardy. The only "safe" pension is one that is funded monthly, in your name, and held by an outside financial institution.
