That’s something that really sucks about this website and I wish they’d fix it. Once you’ve had time to cool off, find a better way to describe something or get a better idea, the edit option is gone and you can’t edit the post.

Yeah, 1 day wait before it gets posted, and unlimited time to edit would definitely change the tone here.

Posting this as a joke but damn... the grass is looking pretty green right now.
That does put military aviation in perspective though…

It doesn’t take into account a possible pension, healthcare and the costs saved in flight training.

But you get ZERO unless you stay 20 years.

(I was forced out at 14.5 due to downsizing)

Exactly. Food and housing allowance combined with free life, health and dental added around 40% on top of my yearly compensation. Heck, the Military even has a type of 401K match now if you don't plan on staying in for 20. I didn't have that choice.

The tax advantages of mil comp definitely inflates take home compared to a civilian job. The inability to say no or have any real influence over where you go or when or for how long can really grind, especially once you have a family. I still think it’s a more interesting way to get into aviation than the straight civilian route, but you pay for it.
