I don't often drink bourbon, but when I do High West American Prairie Bourbon is a good choice, or their Rendezvous Rye.

Not sure what your budget is but id toss Basil Hayden into the ring, about $40-50 where I live. I was given a bottle of it a few years back and it was great, one of the few bottles that I would drink neat, yet not too expensive to be ashamed of making a cocktail with if thats more their speed. Jack, in my mind, is only good for cocktails/mixing. Scotch is a gamble, I would only buy scotch if you know for a fact they like scotch.

IMO, the best gifts for someone who can basically buy whatever they want anyway are either consumables (a good whiskey, wine, etc) so they don’t clutter up the house, or something hand-made/unique. Bonus points if the booze is somewhat hard to find.
I’ll never not appreciate a gift but I don’t really need more stuff. I do really appreciate people taking the time to make something personal to me or find a really oddball alcohol or food or something.

Oh no. Do not go with Jack. Jack is solely bottled to give frat dudes something to decorate their apartment with.
Here are some of my favorite brown liquids.
Suntory Hibiki- 100ish
Eagle Rare- 50-75ish
Journeyman Distillery Corsets, Whips, and Whiskey- 50ish but hard to find.
Nikka 21- MP, good luck with your search.
Yamazaki 12- 200ish, great if you’re looking for something high end but you don’t want to take out a second mortgage.
Plenty of good scotches out there too but I’ll leave that to the experts. It was never really my thing.

If you’re looking for something unique, try something from Barrell Spirits. I’ve bought a couple bottles as gifts and they’re always a hit.
