Sorry for going off topic, but when dropping trips is mentioned, does your airline allow you to simply drop the trip or is scheduling approving the drop?

Landing a helicopter on the edge of a cliff under NVG is a hell of a lot of fun, but this thread has absolutely convinced me of what I've been feeling these past couple of years.. in the longterm, airline pay and QOL wins hands down!

A good friend finally landed his "dream gig" as a local life-flight pilot...after a few years of that they gave up on it and is now in the airlines. He realized that the stuff that made his job "exciting" was not always healthy for him lol. Plus we're all out earning him by a factor of 3-4x, with much more time off and I don't have to wake up at 0300 to flying single pilot, in crap wx, on NVGs to some back country road while using a nurse as a spotter for power lines.

Depends on the airline. Southwest does not allow drops, but we can give away or trade.

As long as we (DAL) have proper coverage, you can drop your entire schedule.

You can drop through elitt (rare, but I dropped two days last month) or by conflict bidding.

But yeah, no straight drops like some other carriers have.
