Now compare that 137-158/hr 65 hour min with the contract 2000 rate, 207-244/hr 81-83 hour min.
Fast forward from the BK to 2007 at Delta. SAME THING, guys are killing it with (insert color of the rainbow) slips here, then the recession hits. No more bidding LCA lines and picking up for double, no more (insert color of the rainbow) slips here, no more "rolling thunder. Basically just hourly rate at min guaranty. So AGAIN, those guys that are raking it in NOW weren't always in a position to do so.
See above. I was making the same as an RJ CA with 80-85 hours and 14 days as the NB FO at UAL with 12 days off and 65 hours.

John Carr I appreciate you bringing some reality of the past and definite future for those of us new to the industry. You are absolutely spot on. Get it while the getting is good and be ready for the dark times.

And that’s all I’m trying to get at. Get it while you can, but manage expectations because it can all go away tomorrow, again…
I read how much the regionals are paying (granted, due to the bonus structures) and I’m astounded. And good for them, it’s what they SHOULD be making.
Anyway, ‘nuff thread drift from me.

I was so close to leaving the industry last year during the worst of COVID. I am ready to go if the pay rates and DC percentages go back to that. This job just isn't worth it unless you're making in the high $270-350/hr. (NB and WB). Have that nice DC contribution going in each year pads the retirement accounts.
Can't do it if we go back to early mid 2000s rates. Maybe if I'm in the "furlough proof zone" I'd think about staying and cutting back but doubt it.

Now, for those want to lambast me for the previous sentence, let's be real for a moment, and really put the job in it's perspective and forego the "paying dues" argument. We paid our dues getting to 1500 hrs. Those in the industry industry decades absolutely paid higher dues than others. The differences come in the equipment, amount of people and destinations.
Sorry for the thread drift. This subject merits it's own thread.

I agree with your stance and statement. Im at a regional now and for a variety of reasons I don't believe I will stay in the industry if I don't move UP from the regionals (or laterally into a higher paying position). The pay difference for essentially the same position is mind boggling.

Allegiant Air
A320
Year 7 FO
$101,462 Gross
$2600 in profit sharing included above.
$9800 Company match on 401k
571 hours flown, I drop down to minimum hours whenever possible and target 2 days per week of work. All my trips are extremely efficient.
I did zero overnights for all my trips, maybe over nighted 2 nights for recurrent training.
I had every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off for the entire year.
Live in base.
None of my flying was affected in any way by covid.

Canadian numbers are abysmal, but this is mostly a US focused board, so it was a half joke half serious response. Are you reading the replies in this thread? Less than 2 years ago we were all talking about signing up for truck driving school, now people who were on covid related leaves who haven't touched a jet in a year are posting 6 figure numbers, while those who worked are making what they did, or more, pre-covid. $300k+ for a newer FO flying cargo? That's incredible and most of these huge numbers are because of taking advantage of covid related work rules. Also hiring is moving faster than we'd ever thought possible and there's record breaking first year numbers for many of the regional guys. So, what do you want me to say?
