Not much of a shortage. There's no 1500 hour rule so that helps. I regularly flew with FO's on the E175 that had less than 1000 hours and a commercial. There's a lot of crappy northern jobs that make flying in the south for poverty wages look like a nice upgrade. Very few airlines to choose from. There's no way for a Canadian pilot to immigrate to the US directly so the only options for Canadian pilots to work elsewhere are places like Asia and Africa.
However, as those of us that have been doing this a long time know this is ALL CYCLICAL. While newbies may be reading this thread thinking its the norm, it's NOT THE NORM.
And not like it needs to be said, those CA's breaking a million are usually very senior. And even though they're "killing it" now, rest assured there was a time in their career where they WEREN'T
In the BK that WB CA now was more than likely a narrow body CA making 137/hr (NB) or 158/hr (756) at a 65 hour guaranty with NO OPEN TIME TO BE HAD.

Can't do it if we go back to early mid 2000s rates. Maybe if I'm in the "furlough proof zone" I'd think about staying and cutting back but doubt it.

More than likely.

Yes, it's an extreme, rare example. But it does show what's in the realm of the possible...
