I don't know why everyone keeps complaining about covid, seems like it's been the best thing to happen to the airline world for a long time!
Unless you were furloughed with 1 or 2 weeks notice....

Yes, Continental 1987. Very lucky count my lucky stars everyday . I’m extremely fortunate. If you would have told me in the late 80’s to mid to late 90’s that I would be a fairly senior wide body captain at United (through a merger) in 30 plus years. I would have asked you what the hell are you smoking! Continental was a terrible airline in the late 80’s early 90’s. Most of my original new hire class (only one left besides me and he retires in a few months) left for UAL, DAL,NWA, US Air and other carriers within a year or two. One of my classmates that left for United ended up junior to me (you never know in a merger). Some did well others did not so much and if they could have changed that decision today and never left CAL they would have stayed. You just never know in this industry.

Wow great perspective. It isn’t easy to stick it out when all your friends are bailing for other airlines. Good for you. Nice W2 as well!

I thought I saw a 190 in San Juan the other day. Puerto Rico is in Atlantic time zone, so that would be 2 times zones then, not one. 😬

Wow those numbers are...not great. No pilot shortage up north? Hey at least the big cities in Canada where you are probably based are cheap expensive. /s

Here’s the opposite end of the UPS spectrum. I used every available tool to work as little as possible at the expense of earning potential. Several conflicts throughout the year resulted in extra days off along with 2 weeks of vacation and 1 sick call. I used a contract provision to drop trips for no pay several times. Always made sure to maintain the minimum credit required to maintain vacation/sick/retirement accruals. No JA/OT pickups in 2021.

UPS 3/4 year FO
$222,400 gross
$25,200 B Plan DC
A Plan- $$??
$8400 per diem
2021 days worked averaged just under 10 per month
Commuter

Keep in mind most of those guys are the exceptions/outliers, probably on 74, and are working (hustling) for it. Your average brown FO working just his/her schedule is grossing closer to the mid 2’s then add another 12% for our b-fund contribution. That being said, not really difficult to bump up pay by another 50-75K -> guys cashing out their unused sick time and selling back vacation can see a 30-40K boost. Add in a couple of week long OT pickups (@ 150%) that also rack up some late arrival pay and you’re there; though the availability of this depends on fleet.

edit to add: the avg FO would have 15.25 days off per month (16-17 factoring in conflict bidding and CML DH deviation advantages) and block 3-500 hrs per year.
