Hi folks,
Was on an info call recently and was told most new hire pilots will be in HVN for a while right after training - perhaps on reserve. Can someone help me understand how this works? Airport seems kind of "out there." If you are commuting, do you fly into LGA and then catch a train? Is there a better airport to fly in to? Can you list yourself on any airline or just certain ones? Can you get positive space? What is Avelo policy on commuting? Must give yourself 2 flights to make it or something like that? Do you end up jumpseating? Can you do that (CASS)? Thanks in advance!

Personally I don’t know when as a generation of pilots everyone is so not up to doing your time. But ultimately that’s what you’re gonna do, you’re gonna get stuck at the junior base doing junior flying/reserve, things are expanding here so rapidly you can’t predict where you’ll be at. I’d assume there will be another period in due time where we don’t have reserves in some bases and the junior pilot will be a line holder.
This is not to you in particular but if you don’t want to do the time and be patient in what this place has to offer spare you the time and go to another place unless you can’t get calls then continue getting experience.

If you live in one of our based the QOL is amazing and the pay is relatively good, although they will need to revisit this as the ULCC contracts get amended
