And I'll add I don't think this place is trash. I'm excited to be here and plan on finishing my career at Avelo.

8 hr day? Maybe 4-5ish hrs a day of flying? Home for dinner? Still 6 figures? Yeah, I'll take that all day long.

Many guys are messaging me asking about Avelo. Don’t have the time to answer everyone, so here is my take…
The Good: the crews are great. Makes life so much easier when flying with people you know. It’s like a family in Burbank.
The Bad: The round trips get kind of boring with little variety unless you do a charter trip. The pay is not as competitive as your peers and it will get worse with the new contracts at the majors. This is not a commuting job. Most guys are not married or see their wives twice a month. It’s tough to commute to a remote base.
The Ugly: The CP is lowering moral and making changes that are causing people to quit. Guys were given bases in training and then told that it is no longer available. I know many guys that have left or are leaving. It’s a different company from when I started and it is slowly getting worse. Also, many pilots here have some sort of incident, failure, or conviction so some guys are stuck.
My advice…go to a major where you can build seniority. Your bank account will thank you for it. You never know what’s going to happen here. It’s a gamble and me not a gambling man. I thought I would stay here till retirement, but I see the writing on the wall.

Avelo is a startup, there are going to be growing pains. I truly think management is trying to do the right thing, any promises made were made with good intentions and things change. Junior is junior at any airline, you will spend some time on reserve, just like any airline. But growth is rapid, you will hold a line fairly quickly and that will get you 16-19 days off. If you don't get your preferred base, that will also be short lived, so hang in there and you'll get your preferred base in short order.
PM with any questions and I'm happy to help.

Base bid just opened the other day, so yet to be seen about RDU and ILG. My guess is RDU will go senior, and ILG junior.

Sounds like it's gonna start with 3 or 4 crews, but should grow relatively quickly. If you're local, should be perfect......but I make no promises, this is just my guess about it going junior.......bid closes in about 10 days, so we will have more info then.

The pay is below standard and it will be below average as other airlines get their new contracts. If you are in your 20’s, that’s about a 2 million dollar difference. If you are in your 50s, not so much. That’s why the company attracts more senior guys with vast differences. There were rumors of an extra pay increase before the rise in fuel prices. The guys that come here are not the cream of the crop and it will show. Almost every FO I have flown with have their apps at United, Delta, American, and Southwest. Almost everyone would have wished to get a seniority number at those companies before coming to Avelo.
Like a previous poster said, it’s good if you live in base and have family. There are growing pains like every new airline but there has never been such demand at the Big 3 so why waste your time and lose out on seniority. It could be the difference between being furloughed, Captain upgrade, base choice, and reserve.
