Where do you see this Visa program for Avelo? That is serious stuff and if you have that info post the link. When I looked on AirlineApps I didn't see anything but of course it may not say anything there. Sometime recently they add "ATP Transition" to the list of Direct Captain and F/O.
If there is any Avelo folks reading this, there are some highly qualified folks (prior 121) out here waiting for the window to open. Not all of us out here want to be pilot number 14,432. Going to Avelo right now would be something unique (Ten stripes not withstanding lol). Especially if they pull it off long term. If the Visa statement above is true then that is really going to stir the Bad Karma pot.

Are they just hiring people with 737 type or CQFOs? I actually interviewed and got the TBNT email. I have around 5k with fair amount of turbine PIC. Kind of weird because I thought it went pretty good. Today they’re advertising Australian visa pilot program with wide open spots for them to signup and interview. Bit of a punch in the gut.
Visa for a regional I can see, anything else makes no sense at this time.

Sadly this Visa thing is all too true. Plenty of US pilots applying and not hearing back - I know of at least 2 myself - so god only knows why they need Australian pilots! This will likely not go down well. From what I saw, they will hire an Aussie with no type rating, just an ATP and min hours! Then again Frontier and Spirit are allegedly doing the same thing.

They need to rephrase their motto. "Do you have a soul for not leaving." Attrition is a problem for everyone except the legacies. Folks are leaving SWA. Giving the middle finger to qualified pilots here in the USA is the worst way to handle it. Not to mention someone is willing to sacrifice a certain amount of safety. Their 737's are going into some airports without a lot of margin for error and I would guess they will go into a few more.

Is ALPAs stance on this. A new airline starting up had their DOT approval postponed because ALPA, Joe Dapete, filed a petition against them for hiring Canadian pilots. ALPA does not seem to have a problem with Australians though. I find this odd but believe ALPA is so ensconced in politics that they’ve really lost site of what it is they’re here for. So while Americans get turned down for open, advertised positions, foreigners can come right in. A number of these carriers are struggling to attract and retain people but have not problem turning outside the country when people are right here. Great Job ALPA and Joe!
