Default HVN

I am going to be in HVN for a bit. I've never been to that part of the country outside of an airport. Are there any areas I should avoid and what are the more desireable areas? I don't mind being lightly burgled I just don't want to be murdered :P

Yup. Vehicle break-ins are common. East Rock is nice, and there are some decent homes in East Haven, or even Fair Haven Heights and the condos along the river (do not confuse with Fair Haven). If you can afford to live a bit north in Branford or Guilford, you'll find it much nicer. Meriden ain't bad, and North Haven (towards Quinnipiac U) is decent as well. Wooster Square is decent in the downtown area, but cars are robbed pretty frequently.

Avoid Fair Haven, The Hill, Westville, Dixwell, Newhallville, Foxon, etc.

You *probably* won't be murdered, but your car might be pretty well trashed in a lot of NH. Good luck!

The farther east you get, starting with Branford, the smaller and quieter the towns get. Guilford to the airport is 20 minutes. Old Saybrook is 35 minutes. Tough place to be single pehrpas?

Stay out of the cities basically, and you'll be ok. The shorline outside the cities is all wealthy New England old money, and corporate types, so they make sure to keep their voting block confined to the cities (mostly). Every once in a while, in the summer, there will be a street takeover at 2am on a Sunday night in a nicer town, however.
If you do find yourself in a city, defending yourself against crime is illegal and will land you in jail, your attacker on the otherhand, will get a special dinner at the governor's mansion, or if he ends up dead, he'll have world leaders attending his funeral and a holiday declared in his honor.

Couple casinos out in the boonies in the eastern part of the state are pretty cool, that's actually the nicest part of the state. There are a couple smaller old industrial towns that are now mostly fentanyl, but outside of that it's all mostly forests, lakes, etc. Mystic is touristy but worth a visit during off peak times. Beyond that, Westerly is just across the RI border. Hammonasset Beach and Rocky Neck are both state parks and are worth a visit, but fill up quickly during peak times. Housing is expensive, but where is it not?

Hope that gives you a little insight.
Did they ever build that training center in Orlando?

The F##k? Yah, the cities here aren't modeled on stand-your-ground or any other deep red ideologies. But just because a community isn't full of cookie-cutter houses with a Starbucks every 1500 feet, doesn't mean it is dangerous. I've lived about a mile north of downtown New Haven for the past 18 months and really enjoyed it. Lots of restaurants, bars and a pretty nice bike/running trail.

MCO trai ing center 'paused' as far as we know.

Any other updates or news with Avelo?

Is it line bidding, or PBS? Are the trips still mostly day trips or are they commuteable?
No airport standby correct?
what are the long/short callout times?

It's line bidding. Eventually it will be PBS. Yes, still mostly day trips with the exception of charters. If you are looking to commute I would say virtual base is your best option and then RDU is the second best option because they have most of the charters. I don't think I would pick this airline as a commuter though. I picked it so I would be home every night. There are more lucrative options if you want to commute in my opinion. No airport standby. Long call is 12 hours. Short call is 2 hours except if you are virtual based or TDY and at a hotel on the company's dime then it's 1 hour (I think, or it could be 90 minutes?).

Any updates on FO hiring? Last I heard it was on pause due to the 737 issues. Is Sonoma fully manned yet? Any vacancies in HVN?
