Because he's right! If you gotta be well-liked by the company in order to upgrade, pilots will do whatever takes to be on time, they won't write up broken items for fear of "disappointing" he wrong people", etc. Heck, if it means you gotta break some silly rule every now and then in order to upgrade - so be it...
There is no merit based captain upgrade at VA. It is seniority based and only seniority. Yes there is a small group of F/O's who have to get 1000 hours in type, then they can upgrade by seniorty. How do I know this? I work there. I sure wish all the VA haters would stop posting false information just to stir the pot.
Happy Landings PedroPat
If that's the case - disregard my post. Wish you luck (and much better benefits and pay! )

Pedro,
Are you still hiring for Capt positions? If so, are the requirements the same as posted on the site for all recruits? Is there a training bond? Have you been doing any flying while waiting for the launch, or do you all simply wait at home while getting paid? How many pilots hired so far, and how many more are you looking for this year?

Well, we are hiring guys who will be in the right seat for a very short time. I met the last class at the company welcome aboard party a week ago. All had either lots of Airbus time or other heavy time. Four from USAirways two from AA, one from USA 3000 and one guy who was a 747-400 captain for the last ten years at EVA.
Anybody that does not have a Airbus type rating will be typed with no training bond or any other strings attached.
I think we are up to about 90 pilots so far. I expect another hundred over the next twelve months but that's just my guess.
There are no other duties required so most guys have been sitting around on guarantee. Most of us have just requaled in the sim to be ready for the launch. Since I'm local I've been helping out with engine runups, the CASS system, and all around company party helper.
BTW: The company pays for your uniform, gives you a very cool computer flight bag and suitcase. Best of all....NO REVISIONS, we have the Class II EFB which includes the A/C manuals, performance and W+B.
Hope this helps

Know what I love to see, is this crappy company's airplanes PARKED with engine covers and window shield protectors on in Stockton, CA. Makes my little flight instructor heart happy everytime I do an approach there and go around. Just food for thought.

Ohh I know, but at the same time, what's so good about this company? With every major hiring (almost) every regional dying for pilots and here comes a new airline? For what? More capacity in a system that as enough? Now lets see if my little tool brain can wrap his little tool brain around this. So if the market has fewer seats, and airlines start charging again what they should for a ticket, then that means fares go up, simple supply and demand. No? So here come more seats that have the opposite effect. Not good. Sorry if I'd like to think that Joe-Six-Pack might have to pinch a few more pennies to go flying, but it's better for everyone. But let me just keep flying my little airplanes past their parked arses in Stockton.
