The people who lost by a landslide are trying to find any little bit of leverage on the guy to ruin his life, for daring to not conform to their viewpoints. Then he has other pilots badgering him on the internet, saying "Just do us all a favor, old man, and quit! Nobody wants you here anyway!"

Could imagine having to listen to 8 hours of political talk radio and not being able to it shut off? Could you imagine hearing someone talk and you know they’re a few words from “round em all up.”
If he wants to talk politics at level that could be viewed as more left or right of center, he just needs be more mindful of who he’s speaking too.
I don’t know any of my coworkers that have podcasts and target their employer with it. APC is probably enough to read. He can stay if he wants and I’m sure the Union will fight for job if it comes to that.

I haven't seen any evidence that this guy uses his platform as an AA pilot to advance his viewpoints. I took a browse through his twitter feed and his blog and I saw zero mention of AA or his day job. His 'About' section describes him as a citizen reporter.
I don't agree with the guy's message or methods, but I definitely disagree with attempts to get someone fired (or harass them into quitting) just because they have a different opinion than others.

That depends on what thier saying at work. We had a guy get himself into trouble on social media. Now it could be argued whether or not it was damaging to the company. Unfortunately this guy was a HR nightmare to begin with. It became super difficult for the Union to step in and help this guy keep his job. Point is there was already a hr file on him and then he went and did the dumb social media thing.

You remind me of the bus driver in Billy Madison:
"Oh man she is one more piece of ***, I would know from experience"
-"No you wouldn't"
"You're right, but my buddy..."
-"No he didn't"
"Yeah, but you could only imagine what it would be like..."
This is the level of ignorance you purvey when you make dumb statements like that

Do you think this fictional or actual on the job stuff? Its not dumb statement, because it happens on the job. Why am I so ignorant for not wanting to listen to some other person rant for 8 hours a day? It just after awhile starts to feel like a personal attack.
I’m sure the guy is fine on the road mostly. He shouldn’t be fired! But there needs to be an understanding that what you say is public and that sometimes it can hurt peoples feelings.
Listen, I’m sorry for what I have said to you guys. Okay?

Proving again that you reap what you sow...

Fundamentally there is no first amendment protection from your employer, and plenty of ex-employees (including more than a couple pilots) have learned that the hard way. Especially in the social-media era.
But previously that was almost always applied for those who either
1) Bad-mouthed the company in public (common)
2) Made truly outrageous public speech, ie nazi, anti-semitic, mecha, etc (pretty rare, but gets a lot of press)
I think there will be societal pushback for companies trying to police their rank-and-file employees' participation in routine civil discourse on their own time. Obviously different for high-profile execs. There's actually nothing preventing 1st amendment-like legislation protecting all or almost all employee speech...
