Fail to be woke at your own peril.

I found that the world was a much friendlier place again after I cold-turkey quit Facebook and Twitter. It’s almost like most people in real life are actually pretty friendly and reasonable and I like them more when I don’t already know all of their opinions on every topic under the sun.

agreed. My BP went from marginally high to normal in a few weeks after I left SM and deleted my news feeds. I also tell the pilots I fly with how much better I feel without the social and political tension and won’t be discussing those things with them. We actually have some meaningful and friendly conversations, even though we are obviously on different sides of the aisle.

Actually, no. See, that’s the problem, you are mistaking my motives. I am not trying to get you or anyone else mad, merely showing the ambiguity in the terms being used and how difficult determining motivation actually is. That is not unique to you nor am I insulting you. It’s applicable to everyone using such terminology. It’s too ambiguous to be helpful.
Which is why courts generally find ambiguous laws unenforceable.

Hate speech is like trying to define pornography. It’s probably a little different for everyone but when you see it you’ll know. Some people are more sensitive than others to certain hot button topics and as an adult you need to be able to read the room or know your audience, you keep trying to make everything black and white when in reality life is very grey. Can you discuss and have a reasonable disagreement with a close friend without getting fired/cancelled? Yes. Should you get into some heated debate with some online stranger about race or gender on Facebook? Probably not and if you do that’s your own fault.
As airline pilots we work with people from all different walks of life with some very differing opinions. I’ve never had a problem. As long as you respect the fact that people are entitled to their own opinions and you respect them then you most likely will be just fine.

Before social media, that reasonable disagreement with a close friend was a private discussion. And that discussion would often ‘expire’ from relevancy due to both parties either forgetting or moving on. Now, these discussions are in public formats and/or in media where what is said never goes away (even if it’s “deleted”).

It's a term made up by the fringe of the right-wing to easily label something that lends itself to the mythology of white-male oppression and victimhood. It's the same trope as "PC culture" just with a new name for this decade.

Do we really want employers to become involved in second guessing either elections or legal political conduct of their employees? THAT is the issue.
Doing so would seem to be hazardous for the employer and the employee both. But I’m perfectly willing to let you try to convince me otherwise if that’s an argument you want to try to make.

Woke is actually a term coined by those who are self-proclaimed woke and therefore assess themselves to be socially superior.
Wikipedia: “In the 21st-century's first decade, use of woke encompassed the earlier meaning with an added sense of being "alert to social and/or racial discrimination and injustice". This usage was popularized by soul singer Erykah Badu's 2008 song "Master Teacher", via the song's refrain, "I stay woke".
