This is why I’ve said you need to divide your income by your total time away from base.

And your income should include all forms of money your contract spells out. For example, any 401k matching, defined contributions, profit sharing (if its negotiated in the contract), VEBA, premium cost sharing, company HSA contributions, per diem, etc. For those on reserve, dividing by work days will be more accurate. Although, I think it’s actually more accurate to use total duty time (which includes reserve call availability) is the most accurate.

When you do that, you come up with a pay rate that not only takes into account your income but also the QOL your contract provides, by measuring the amount of what you make in context to the amount of hours/days you had to work to make that amount.

Of course this will still not capture things like insurance benefits, company provided LTD, pensions, etc. And it certainly doesn’t capture things like scope, dispute resolutions, commuter clause, etc. But it will give a good idea as to the value of the contract.

It wasn’t that long ago that these conversations were considered tacky. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not the thread police. Just cringe a little with both the content and timing while so many are hurting.

The only beneficiary of a lack of compensation transparency is airline management. The less you know about how pilots doing similar work to you are compensated the better for them. Do some guys get off on showing off how much they brought home? Sure! But who cares. The information has value to folks on this forum who are or will be job hunting or entering contract negotiations.

Well....Easy access to every contract if you put in a little effort....and every one that BS’s on this thread gets piled on by pilots of their own airline. These W2 surveys are the data points missing from the wealth of information out there. I agree that just looking at a post and making up your mind would leave a lot out....Someone else said it. I will refine it. One of Ford & Harrison’s central tenants is keeping actual income a closely guarded secret. We benefit from sharing....So do the furloughed pilots
