Some people look down on certain work. But it’s out there.
the large trucking companies are turning down hundreds of loads per day (500 at Schneider alone) because there are not enough drivers.

The pay is terrible. So there's that. Unless you're an owner operator.

Have them post their W2s!

Seriously though? What good is this thread? It can't be considered accurate data unless you posted a screen shot of your actual W2 and evidence of your time away from base. Without that, it leaves room for exaggeration. Additionally, the number variables that go into how much you make vs how hard you work render analysis useless.

Oh, and no need to worry about my relationship with my parents. Buti f it makes you feel better, it's excellent, and always has been. Sorry if you were looking for another response to fit your narrative. Try harder next time.
Bingo. All the posters talking about being offended yet took the time to read the title and still click and engage. Unreal. I think they may be in the wrong industry if they are offended by wage discussions.

By talking about pay, days worked and retirement we have a pros and cons comparison for contract negotiations. In the private world many don't have this ability and is the reason why they settle for much less. Plus they don't have group negotiating power like a union does. If we all became private contractors our pay would be half and retirement would look like a bad dream.Especially in these times. Pilots would be climbing over each others dead bodies to do it for less if not for a unionized labor force to stop them from cannibalizing each other.

I don't understand what these naysayers don't get about this.

Noworkallplay I get where your point of view is coming from, but why are you going back and forth with people who clearly won’t change their view. If people want to post their W2’s then they will. Your wasting your breath and your time.

Fascinating.

I'm told that in a capitalist system, there is no such thing as a labor shortage. Only choices on how to spend finite resources; what is most important gets priority. (Sans market distortions like an infinite amount of cheap labor brought in to make sure the billionaires can shave off another .01/hr in wages)

If they want drivers, they need to raise their shipping rates and pay the drivers more. Bezos might not like that though, and I'm sure he's quite confident that millions of "new arrivals" are going to be entering the country soon.

(Anecdotally heard that being able to consistently pass a drug test for drivers is a growing challenge.)

Many large transport companies have been raising pay multiple times per year trying to find the sweet spot to attract drivers. Just like airlines pre-Covid, it’s a race for bodies to fill seats.

You are correct about positive drug tests, they generally do hair follicle which can stay in the system
six to eight months or more. HR departments are saying to keep clean for at least a year before applying to make sure you pass. Some of it’s the DOT, but it’s mostly insurance companies that regulate the hiring, training and equipment standards (ie automatic transmissions, cruise controls) at trucking companies nowadays.

You all call it virtue signaling now? Back in the day when people actually gave a fu@k about others, we called it empathy.

I guess not being breast fed, because your mom didn’t want her boobs to sag, caused some separation from normal human emotion for you. I’m sorry that happened. But she wanted to make sure she still looked good in all those bikini selfies on FB and Instagram, so it was worth it....for her.

Did I take it too far?

Answer: I don’t care. The Judge (Smails) is right, in my opinion. You guys go ahead and compare earnings. My opinion differs from a lot of you. I don’t have to read this thread and I obviously have been after 19 pages. I’ve just been reading like someone looks at a car wreck on the shoulder of the road.

LOL. You're certainly entitled to that opinion.
